J.J, Abrams and J.H. Wyman are going from Fringe to ... the buddy-cop genre?

With the final season of Fringe headed our way, it looks like Abrams and Wyman aren't sick of each other yet. Deadline has learned the duo has developed an "action-packed" drama for Fox that will hopefully fill the sci-fi void left by Fringe.

The project is currently untitled, but it sounds like Abrams and Wyman are going to twist the "buddy cop" premise on its head. The series is set in the near future, where "all LAPD officers are partnered with highly evolved human-like androids." Wyman, who is acting as showrunner for the final season of Fringe, will write the series, and he and Abrams will executive produce it.

This is Abrams' fourth active TV project, in addition to Fringe, Person of Interest and the forthcoming Revolution. Although Abrams is executive producing Revolution, our understanding is that he's not that involved in its day-to-day. That will likely be the case with this new buddy-cop show as well, but we can see it being more his cup of tea.
