The CW's in-development adaptation of Vertigo series "iZombie" has moved to a very important stage: Deadline reported Wednesday that the network has ordered a pilot for the series, written and executive produced by "Veronica Mars" creator Rob Thomas and frequent collaborator Diane Ruggiero.

Deadline describes "iZombie" as "one of the most buzzed about projects at The CW this season." "iZombie" is the fourth DC Comics-based adaptation to receive a pilot order this season, along with "The Flash," also at The CW, Fox's "Gotham" and NBC's "Constantine."

Thomas and Ruggiero worked together on all three seasons of "Veronica Mars," which ended its run on The CW. The duo teamed to write the "Veronica Mars" film, which debuts in theaters on March 14.

A lighthearted horror book, "iZombie" was created by Chris Roberson and Mike Allred and ran as part of DC's mature readers imprint, Vertigo, from 2010 to 2012. The story stars Gwendolyn Price, a zombie who needs to eat a brain once a month to maintain her intelligence. In the process, she gains the memories of the person whose brain she consumes -- using that to help solve murders. According to Deadline, the "iZombie" TV show is planned as a "supernatural crime procedural."
