I’ve Been Here Before: Stevie Hunter

I coined a term years ago that I like to call “nepotistic continuity,” which refers to the way that comic book writers sometimes bring back minor characters that they themselves created in the past as characters in their current work.

In every installment of this feature, I’ll spotlight an example of a character that did not appear in a comic for at least two years before then showing up in a comic written or drawn by the creator of the character.

Today we look at Stephanie “Stevie” Hunter, Kitty Pryde’s dance teacher!

We first met Stevie Hunter in 1980’s X-Men #139, when Professor X hooks her up with a dance teacher to give her a bit of normality in her life…

She made occasional appearances over the next four years.

In 1984’s New Mutants #14, we see Stevie with the New Mutants kids…

We don’t see her again for two years until New Mutants #38…

It would be over four years until we see Stevie again in 1990’s Uncanny X-Men #270, where she shows up to help the X-Men with Storm’s training (she was turned into a teenager)…

She made a couple of appearances over the next four years but I don’t believe she’s made an appearance since 1994.
