The Flash director Andy Muschietti might have just booked a return trip to Derry, Maine.

According to Variety, the acclaimed director is being eyed to helm the pilot for the It prequel series, Welcome to Derry. Muschietti, who previously directed 2017's It Chapter One and 2019's It Chapter Two, is currently an executive producer on Welcome to Derry with his sister Barbara Muschietti and Jason Fuchs, who was recently named co-showrunner on the prequel series with Brad Caleb Kane. Fuchs also wrote the teleplay for the first episode of Welcome to Derry, based on a story he wrote along with the Muschiettis.

Welcome to Derry was announced in March 2022 and will serve as a prequel to the two-part adaptation of Stephen King's 1986 horror novel that was released in theaters in 2017 and 2019. The series will be set in the town of Derry, Maine in the 1960s, two decades before the events of It Chapter One. Although unconfirmed, Welcome to Derry is also expected to tell the origin story of Pennywise, an evil supernatural force that preys and feeds on children every twenty-seven years.

Muschietti Can't Outrun The Flash

Muschietti is currently in post-production on DC Studios' The Flash, the long-awaited solo film for Ezra Miller's Scarlet Speedster. The project was first announced back in October 2014 but had trouble locking down a director. Muschietti boarded the project in July 2019, with cameras officially on the DC Universe film in April 2021. Miller, who has been the subject of multiple controversies over the last two years, recently apologized for their erratic and dangerous behavior and was seen on the Warner Bros. lot in early October 2022 to film additional footage for The Flash. Warner Bros. has now reportedly locked in a final cut of The Flash, with only VFX work and sound-mixing needing to be completed.

In addition to Miller, The Flash will feature appearances from several prominent DCU actors, including Ben Affleck and Michael Shannon, who reprise their roles from previous films as Bruce Wayne/Batman and General Zod, respectively. Antje Traue, Kiersey Clemons and Temuera Morrison will also appear in the film, reprising their DCU roles as Faora-Ul, Iris West and Thomas Curry, respectively. Michael Keaton is also returning for The Flash, reprising his role as the Caped Crusader for the first time since Tim Burton's 1992 film Batman Returns.

Maribel Verdú and Sasha Calle will be making their DCU debuts in The Flash as Nora Allen and Supergirl respectively while Ron Livingston has been cast as Henry Allen, replacing Billy Crudup who played the character in both Justice League and Zack Snyder's Justice League. Additionally, Saoirse-Monica Jackson, Rudy Mancuso, and Luke Brandon Field have been cast in undisclosed roles.

The Flash opens in theaters on June 23, 2023.
