If this trailer for the first new "Lupin the Third" animated series in thirty years is any indication, fans of the franchise are in for a good time when it finally hits television. From the updated version of the original poppy, Jazz-influenced theme song to the show and manga's signature '60s-style European setting, action and slapstick humor, Monkey Punch's creation appears to be in good hands.

Scheduled to begin airing October 1 in Japan and August 30 in Italy, the anime was developed for Telecom Animation Film by "Castle of Cogliostro" key animator Kazuhide Tomonaga and Yuichiro Yano and stars the voice talents of Kanichi Kurita (Lupin), Daisuke Namikawa (Goemon), Kiyoshi Kobayashi (Daisuke Jigen), Miyuki Sawashiro (Fujiko) and Koichi Yamadera (Zenigata).

Since Monkey Punch's "Lupin III" manga debuted in 1967, the characters have been a staple of pop culture, starring in various television series, anime films, live-action movies, video games and stage adaptations. The upcoming show marks the first new animation featuring the characters since 2012.
