SPOILER WARNING: The following article contains spoilers from tonight’s episode of “Arrow.”
The central focus on tonight’s “Arrow” episode — “Taken” — was the kidnapping of Oliver’s son William. Throughout the course of the episode Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) had to put her feelings aside for the better interest of finding William, but it didn’t change the fact that she was fuming mad at Oliver (Stephen Amell) for keeping him a secret from her. It also didn’t help that Malcolm Merlyn, Thea, and Barry Allen all knew that Oliver had a son, and Felicity still wasn’t told about him. At one point Felicity even had to work with Samantha to draw up a profile of William. Samantha told Felicity that it was her fault she didn’t know, and not to blame Oliver. Sadly Felicity didn’t see it that way. All she saw was Oliver keeping her at arms length again, keeping her out of major decisions, keeping her out of their partnership.
The episode concluded with Felicity placing her engagement ring on Oliver’s desk and calling off the wedding, at least until Felicity got the space that she needed. The craziest part about this scene was that while she was breaking up with Oliver, Curtis’ spinal stimulating device started to work, and Felicity regained the use of her legs. In what should have been a joyous moment of celebration and hugs, Felicity stood up from her wheelchair and walked out of the apartment. The episode cut to black there, and will be the last we’ll see of “Arrow” until the series returns from a small break on March 23.
So what does this mean for Oliver and Felicity’s relationship? Are they over for good? Are they on a break? In the flash forward at the grave site Felicity is not wearing her engagement ring, but she and Oliver did show up together, does that mean they are still close but not quite mended?
“Arrow” EP Marc Guggenheim posted this “Olicity” wedding picture on Twitter today, which caused quote a stir among fans and critics alike. Even the cast was reacting to the image. Does this mean there is an Olicity wedding in the future? Hopefully so.
Not a dream sequence. Not a hallucination. Not an alternate reality. Not a flash forward to a potential future. pic.twitter.com/RfvpKmmjOk
