Is Casting Underway For J.J. Abrams' Super 8?

Wanted: authentic 13 and 14-year-old boys and girls to audition for the lead roles of an upcoming untitled major motion picture from Paramount Pictures — a major motion picture that may or may not be Super 8.

On Friday, Paramount issued an open casting call seeking young leads for an untitled project that Borys Kit with The Hollywood Reporter believes to be Super 8, the upcoming alien thriller directed by J.J. Abrams and produced by Steven Spielberg. Kit calls out certain "crumbs" connecting the casting call to Super 8, including a rumored story focusing on '70s era teenagers in Midwestern America and the film's need to begin shooting soon to meet its summer 2010 release date.

The requirements for the two lead roles are as follows:

FEMALE 13-14 – AN ABSOLUTELY STUNNING NATURAL BEAUTY, STRONG AND CONFIDENT WITH A GREAT SENSE OF HUMOR. SHOULD HAVE A MIDWESTERN FEEL.

MALE 13-14 – VERY HANDSOME AND/OR STRIKING. MUST HAVE A GREAT SENSE OF HUMOR. SHOULD HAVE A MIDWESTERN FEEL. MUST BE 5’6” TO 5’11”

What do you think? Do these sound like the Super 8 leads to you, or do you think the casting call is for a different project?
