There was a lot for Browncoats to enjoy over the weekend at New York Comic Con. In addition to a Firefly reunion panel featuring the short-lived, but much-loved Joss Whedon space Western, series star Nathan Fillion dropped a bit of a bomb on attendees with four simple words: Firefly the Animated Series.
After the panel, the New York Post spoke to co-star Sean Maher, who added more fuel to the fire. “I know somebody who is actually trying to get that done, who has approached Joss about it,” he said. “He used to work with Guillermo del Toro.” Del Toro has worked with plenty of talented animators, between the CGI folks behind many of the Hellboy effects and his oversight of projects like Kung Fu Panda.
“I think there’s less face to be lost in an animated series,” Fillion said. “I think if there was going to be a second movie, it would have happened by now. That was eight years ago.”
The real question is, if this series does come to fruition, how much involvement will Whedon have? Now that he’s a big deal Hollywood player, will he have the time to oversee this project?
