Is Sony already preparing for a sequel to last year's sleeper hit District 9? One rumor has special effect house Weta getting ready for an October shooting start, but it may not be as straightforward as that.

The MarketSaw blog seemed fairly definite about what's happening with the South African sequel late last week:

DISTRICT 10 (Production title at least) is now in pre-production with filming to start in the October time frame this year. Shooting locations will be South Africa once again as well as New Zealand. There has been no word on whether it will be shot in S3D or not as of yet. You will be the first to know! Peter Jackson is again producing the sequel with Neill Blomkamp directing.

However, Cinematical got a terse response when they asked Sony about the rumor:

When reached for comment, Sony told Cinematical that this story is "not true". Take from that what you will ...

So, wait. The whole story is not true, or just details? For example, director Blomkamp has previously said that he'd be more interested in a prequel than a sequel, so is that what Sony is referring to? Or the October date? The locations?
