‘Iron Man’ Writers to Brave ‘The Expanse’

Iron Man screenwriters Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby are bringing their talents to television.

The writing duo has been set to write the pilot episode of The Expanse, based on science fiction novels written by James S.A. Corey, a pseudonym for writers Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck. Variety reports that Alcon Television Group is developing the project as direct-to-series, working internally before bringing it to networks.

Abraham and Franck’s novels take place in a future where mankind has colonized beyond Earth, though much of space remains out of grasp. The story centers on the discovery of a derelict ship and a dark secret, both of which are unwittingly brought to the attention of an ice miner named Jim Holden. Holden becomes involved in a game-changing mystery surrounding the existence of extraterrestrial life.

Three novels exist in the Expanse series thus far: Leviathan Wakes, Caliban’s War and Abaddon’s Gate. You can read the prologue and first chapter of Leviathan Wakes here.
