In the Marvel Universe, there are 66 models of Iron Man armor on Earth-616 alone, not counting alternate universes. Each one of those models has a unique property. Some of those unique properties can be pretty weird. Before we address the really weird ones, let's take a look at what's standard for most Iron Man armor.

Iron Man has all the standards, super-strength, flight, durability, and naturally, armor plating. The basic building blocks of a superhero. What makes Tony Stark's invention so interesting beyond the standard superhero makeup is Tony's ability to be constantly evolving. Throughout the Iron Man armor evolution, there have been some weird design choices by Tony Stark. Here are the 10 weirdest things his armor can do.

10 Anti-Magnetic Safeguards (Model 37)

Iron Man vs. Magneto

You never know when saving the world requires dealing with powers of magnetism, but Tony is like a smartphone; there's an app for that. In Avengers vs. X-Men #2, Iron Man comes face-to-face with the master of magnetism himself, Magneto. Jarvis immediately activates the anti-magnetic safeguards. It's unclear what "anti-magnetic safeguards" are, but it's safe to say they protect Tony from magnetic field manipulation.

This version of the Iron Man armor is made of carbon nanotubes, which we can assume is a non-magnetic material. When coupled with "anti-magnetic safeguards," villains like Magneto have little chance against Tony's true power of being an unparalleled genius who can develop any weird armor solution to deal with any weird scenario like battling a master of magnetism.

9 Time Travel (Model 4 & 29)

Iron Man can time travel with a little help from other geniuses like Doctor Doom. Doom has a device called the Time Platform that allows anyone who stands on it to go back into the past. In Iron Man Vol. 1 #150, when Doom and Iron Man get trapped in the medieval past they have to work together to get back to their own time.

Using components from the Model 4 armor in conjunction with Doom's armor, the genius duo manages to create a makeshift time machine that saves them from being lost in the past. In the miniseries Iron Man: Kiss and Kill, Tony is able to modify his Model 29 armor to time travel, using components from Doom's Time Platform technology.

8 Vespa Transformer (Model 60)

The main feature of Model 60 is that it can transform between transportation mode and armor mode. In transportation mode, the suit transforms into a Vespa motorized scooter. Imagine Tony scootin' around town; then, at a moment's notice, the Vespa encases Tony in the Iron Man armor, ready for action.

From scooter to shooter, this model is a weird one. Only a suave genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist like Tony Stark can see a weapon of mass destruction in a post World War II single motor vehicle. It's like Tony was sitting around his workshop working on some new armor thinking, "Flight. Check. Repulsor Blast. Check. Wait...Vespa mode. Cha-check." One of the handlebars of the Vespa actually transforms into an energy sword. Tony thought of everything on this model.

7 Thorbuster (Model 22)

This armor was powered by an Asgardian crystal that Thor had gifted Tony in hopes Tony would study the energy of the crystal to provide a cleaner energy source that Earth's technology currently didn't allow. During this point in time, Asgard was located on Earth, but the U.S. Government wasn't having it.

The government asked Tony to convince Thor to leave Earth. Of course, Thor refused to leave, leading to an Iron Man vs. Thor brawl. In order to take Thor on, Tony uses the Asgardian crystal to power his armor, allowing the armor to absorb and manipulate Asgardian energies. With this ability, the armor was able to withstand a blow from Mjolnir, equalling the power of Thor's Odin-Force.

6 Underwater Armor (Model 62)

Iron Man is an all-terrain type of hero. Land, air, space, and sea, Tony always has his bases covered. In Avengers Vol. 8 #9 some Atlantean soldiers got into a thing with some whalers, and the whalers killed the soldiers. King Namor wasn't too happy about this, so he kidnapped the whalers, causing an international ocean incident.

The Avengers had to step in, and before Captain America could solve the situation with diplomacy, Iron Man tried to solve it with underwater armor. The underwater version of the armor doesn't differ too much from the standard armor abilities other than it can withstand the pressures of the ocean depths. It also has really cool underwater flashlights mounted on the shoulders.

5 Flying Car (Model 52)

HulkBuster armor in the comics

Even though the suit can already fly, sometimes, you just want to fly around in style. This suit is an evolution in the series of Hulkbuster armors. The design for this armor in the comics was inspired by the Iron Man armor MK XLIV from the MCU film Avengers: Age of Ultron.

As a vehicle, the luxury car can fly with its twin repulsor turbines on the underbelly of the car. When a button is pressed on the car panel, the vehicle transforms into its Hulkbuster form. Legs deploy from the trunk of the car. The arms extend from the hood. The mid-section of the vehicle becomes the body of the armor. The suit forms around the driver. Tony just has to make sure he isn't driving with a passenger otherwise they might get crushed by pressing the wrong button.

4 Pacemaker (Model 1)

In Tales of Suspense Vol. 1 #39, we were introduced to Tony Stark. When he built the first model of the Iron Man armor, the primary function of the armor was to act as a pacemaker that would electronically prevent pieces of shrapnel reaching Tony's heart. In the comic, Tony Stark had arrived in Vietnam to oversee the testing of micro-transistor-powered weaponry.

Escorted by a squad of soldiers through a jungle, Tony accidentally triggers a landmine causing shrapnel to enter his chest. Tony is captured by enemy forces led by a tyrant called Wong-Chu. Wong-Chu forces Tony to build weaponry for him but Tony manipulates Wong-Chu, using his resources to build the Iron Man armor. Through the use of a defibrillator circuit and a flat antenna, Tony built an armor that uses a high-frequency electric signal to stimulate his heart.

3 Nano Iron Man Armor (Model 58)

Iron Man can make a bunch of mini Iron Men with nanotechnology. Tony first used this technology against long-time nemesis Fin Fang Foom when during a battle, Iron Man created an opening in the creature's hide, then fired a pod containing a swarm of nano Iron Men.

At first, Tony could only control one of the nanobots, navigating the mini-armor through Fin Fang Foom's bloodstream. Eventually, Tony figures out how to control the whole nano swarm, leading the nanobots to the brainstem and destroying a control disc manipulating Fin Fang Foom's brain. Tony Stark essentially created his own robot brain virus.

2 Rollerskates (Models 1-3)

When Iron Man's repulsor boots fail and flying is no longer an option, Tony can use his jet-propelled rocket skates to skate on home. Of course, this backup transportation mode is only useful in an urban environment.

If Iron Man were in a jungle or a desert the roller skates would be a bit impractical. On land, the jet-skates could travel at 200mph. Should the need arise to skate on water, the armor also had the capability to clamp a propeller into the boots. Only an ego-maniac like Tony would want to walk on water like Jesus.

1 Advanced Drinkable Urine Filtration System (MCU: Mark IV Armor)

Introduced in the MCU, Iron Man can go to the bathroom in his suit. Not only is this the weirdest Iron Man armor ability but also the grossest. In the film Iron Man 2, Stark is celebrating what he thinks is his last birthday party when he decides to answer a question he gets a lot, "Tony, how do you go to the bathroom in the suit?"

Tony drunkenly pees in front of his guests, answering, "Just like that." When Pepper Potts tries to pull Tony off stage, Tony informs her that the suit has a filtration system and that you can drink that filtered pee. Ugh...
