Marvel's armored Avenger dons a shiny new stealth suit in Iron Man #22, set to hit stores this summer.

As part of its July 2022 solicitations, Marvel Comics revealed a preview for Iron Man #22 showcasing Tony Stark wearing all-new stealth armor. The issue comes from writer Christopher Cantwell, with art by Angel Unzueta, cover art by Alex Ross and variant cover art by Oscar Vega and Bjorn Barends. • Tony Stark has worked hard to pull himself up by his iron bootstraps, and after a few detours, he finally tracks down his old friend and employee Vic Martinelli…only to find he's arrived too late and Vic's been murdered. Before a guilt-ridden Tony can get a bead on why, he's attacked by Vic's assailant…THE TITANIUM MAN. In the battle, he learns the sinister plot goes deeper. The Titanium Man is working for those even more mysterious, and Vic was killed because he'd gotten possession of THE MANDARIN'S RINGS. Tony flies overseas to Asia and headlong into a cloak of conspiracy, hell-bent on tracking down the rings of his most fearsome adversary, desperate to stop them from falling into the wrong hands. But at what cost? What is Tony Stark willing to sacrifice in order to stop the Mandarin's power returning, wielded by the hands of a new – and possibly unsuspecting – acolyte? Iron Man is about to go hard. He's about to buddy up with criminals. And he's about to go…stealth.

Iron Man #22 centers around Tony Stark, who's "worked hard to pull himself up by his iron bootstraps" following his distressing period as the Iron God. He tracks down his old friend and employee Vic Martinelli, only to find him slain by the Titanium Man. Tony learns that the assassination goes deeper than Titanium Man and Vic may have been killed because he had possession of the Mandarin's rings. He must then use stealth and cunning to track down the deadly rings before they fall into malicious hands.

This steal suit is reminiscent of Tony's Mark VII armor, which first appeared in 1981's Iron Man #152. The original all-black suit (appearing as blue) was made from polarized, metal-mesh armor and maximized concealment over everything else. In its initial design, Tony hadn't outfitted the suit with weapon attachments and solely used it for scouting missions. By Iron Man #229, Tony upgraded the armor with a limited arsenal.

Iron Man Vol. 6 has seen Tony deal with an identity crisis, as he questions whether he is a savior or a pariah to the people of Earth. Despite divesting himself of Stark Unlimited and "going back to his roots" of hands-on machinery, Tony still faces scrutiny from the masses, claiming he hasn't lost his ego. After embodying the Power Cosmic, Tony faces even harsher scrutiny from his allies and himself.

Iron Man #22 comes from Cantwell and Unzueta, with cover art by Ross and variant cover art by Vega and Barends. The issue goes on sale July 20 from Marvel Comics.
