WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Iron Man 2020 #5 by Dan Slott, Christos Gage, Pete Woods, & VC's Joe Caramagna, on sale now

Since Tony Stark's time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe came to an end during the course of Avengers: Endgame, fans have looked back on the Armored Avenger's journey from war profiteer to the hero that saved the universe. While Stark grew as a person, the development of Iron Man could be seen most easily in the suits that he brought into battle. However, several of Iron Man's most beloved, fan-favorite armors never made it to the big screen before Tony made the ultimate sacrifice.

While some armors like the Bleeding Edge and Model-Prime variations inspired some of Iron Man's greatest suits, Tony was never able to quite reach the heights of these powerful armors in the MCU. Now, we're taking a closer look at some of the most awesomely powerful Iron Man suits that never made it out of the Marvel Universe.

Holographic Suit

Iron Man 2020 Tony Stark feature

The most recent addition to Tony's arsenal, the Holographic Suit, made its debut in Iron Man 2020 #5, by Dan Slott, Christos Gage, and Pete Woods. After making his grand return to battle Arno Stark, who currently holds both his company and the title of Iron Man, Tony immediately begins to prepare a new suit of armor with Friday, his former A.I. assistant and current virtual world. When completed, everyone is shocked to see that Tony isn't wearing any apparent armor at all.

Yet, this iteration of the Iron Man suit only becomes visible upon contact. Because of this, when Arno unleashes a barrage of attacks, the suit reveals itself to be comprised of a solid hologram. Aside from giving Tony a clear advantage in moving beyond the purely physical realm, the Holographic Suit appears to be unlimited in its use of weaponry, something he avoids in the more-personal battle with his brother. Currently, this is his most advanced armor, and the full capabilities of the Holographic Suit are still to be seen.

Endo-Sym

Introduced concurrently as the events of AXIS had Tony Stark embrace his more villainous side, the Endo-Sym suit made its debut in the Superior Iron Man, by Tom Taylor and Yildiray Cinar. This suit served as Tony's own version of the Venom symbiote and other beings like it, something that fellow geniuses have also developed.  Moving beyond a technological connection, this armor relies on a psionic one that grants Tony full control of the suit's many properties.

Made of liquid metal, the Endo-Sym can respond to any of Tony's thoughts, creating weapons and changing sizes for whatever occasion may occur. His connection to the suit also allows him to control the liquid when it is separated from his body, allowing him to use it to infiltrate or even control other objects. This suit could also overwhelm other forms of artificial intelligence that attempted to interrupt its connection. With this suit, Tony was able to gain control of San Francisco, which became his own personal domain during his fall into villainy.

Uru Armor

Powered up Avengers from Fear Itself.

When the Serpent, Odin's older brother, came into the Marvel Universe to claim Midgard as his own, Tony was forced to turn to the Asgardian forges for any kind of advantage in the coming war. Working with the dwarves of Nidavellir, Tony built many weapons for his fellow Avengers. When it came for himself, Tony imbued his Bleeding Edge armor with the metal Uru, the same element found in Thor's hammer.

Only truly making an appearance in Fear Itself, by Matt Fraction and Stuart Immonen, the Uru armor allowed Iron Man to directly face the Worthy, heroes and villains that had been transformed into dark gods by the Serpent. Besides using one of the strongest materials in all the realms, this armor also allowed Tony to use magic in his own way, a weak spot for the science-based hero. After this battle was over, Tony returned the Uru to the dwarves, making it a short-lived addition to his set of armors.

Godbuster Armor

Iron Man in his Godbuster Armor

The Godbuster armor was created in the midst of Dan Slott and Valerio Schiti's Tony Stark: Iron Man run. Within the eScape, a digital realm that served as the main endeavor of Stark Unlimited, Tony left the restraints of his human body. With this system playing with both his mind and reality, Tony came to the conclusion that he needed a suit of armor that defied the restraints of reality and of himself. With his mind fully integrated into this digital realm, Tony created the Godbuster.

Able to process his ideas at inhuman speed, Tony's imagination created a suit that was unstoppable. After escaping back into the real world, Tony used 3-D printers to bring the armor to life in his next battle with the Controller. The armor's advanced design ensures that even Tony can't fully comprehend his creation. This suit could truly accomplish anything that Tony's imagination allowed. After destroying the suit to prevent it from falling in the wrong hands, Arno used pieces of it to create his own Iron Man armor.

Godkiller

Originally, the Godkiller suit was designed by the Aspirants as the ultimate weapon against the Celestials, and it was able to kill beings of their immense power level. Tony came upon the suit, and came close to using it, while he was traveling through the far reaches of space. Yet, when the suit was lost to another dimension, Iron Man, never one to forget a good idea, made the decision to create his own version.

The Godkiller Mark II was revealed in Jason Aaron and Ed McGuinness' Avengers when the Dark Celestials came to avenge the actions of the Avengers 1,000,000 B,C. At the same enourmous size of a Celestial, this suit allowed Tony to remain on the battlefield with literal gods. Comprised of all Tony's innovations, it is an armor that is designed to protect a whole galaxy from the forces of creation and dispatch gods.
