WARNING: The following article contains spoilers for Iron Man #1 by Christopher Cantwell, C. Cafu, Frank D'Armata and VC's Joe Caramagna, on sale now.

With a new series comes a new direction for Tony Stark as he tries to rediscover the man within the iron. But in Iron Man #1 it Tony is having a hard time convincing people of his sincere attempt to be more humble and less... Tony. The good news is that his well-meaning, but bumbling attempts to come across as more self-conscious may be aided by Patsy Walker, AKA Hellcat. Meeting Tony at a party he is hosting in his recently purchased New York apartment, Tony is set at ease by the presence of a friendly face and Patsy tries to get at the heart of the recent changes Tony has made in his life.

While the party is in full swing around the duo, with many CEOs and billionaires attempting to get a moment with Tony for less than friendly reasons, Patsy can't help but joke with Tony that these are supposed to be his friends. Tony retorts that they think they're his friends.

Friendly banter finished, Patsy tries to gauge what's going through Tony's head at the moment, citing her long history with him since he first donned the Iron Man armor. Tony tries to explain that he's attempting to get back to that version of himself, the guy who helped people, and he hopes Patsy doesn't think he's pretending like so many other people believe. She rejects this notion and tries to help him figure out what it is that he's trying to accomplish, pointing out that Tony seems more confused than humble. Patsy impressively demonstrates that she can figure out what's going on with the billionaire with just a few minutes of conversation.

This moment provides a unique opportunity for Tony. In the past, the Armored Avenger has never had the best of luck with finding love. The most recent attempt was with Janet Van Dyne, AKA the Wasp. They resumed their relationship in Dan Slott and Valerio Schiti's Tony Stark: Iron Man #4, but following Tony's coma, his recovery, and the events of Al Ewing, Slott, and Schiti's Empyre the relationship seemed to have stalled, if not stopped cold in its tracks. In Iron Man #1, Wasp flew by Tony's new apartment to compliment him on it and then end their relationship in what might have been the quickest and most emotionless breakup ever.

Tony's new relationship status may be the best thing that has happened to him in a long time. While he and Janet had undeniable chemistry in their relationship, Janet always had reservations about dating Iron Man. But while she may have known Tony since he became an Avenger, Patsy has known Tony for far longer than that.

Patsy understands who he was when he first became a hero and what his original goals were, something Tony himself is currently trying to rediscover. Their dynamic is fun, Patsy listens to what Tony has to say, then helps him figure out what he is actually trying to say. Tony and Patsy have a very similar sense of humor as well, so she is less likely to get as annoyed by Tony's bravado as most people do. At the end of it all, the two seem to understand each other and connect on an emotional level that Tony hasn't experienced for some time.
