WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Free Comic Book Day 2019 Avengers/Savage Avengers #1, by Jason Aaron, Stefano Caselli, Erick Arciniega, Gerry Duggan, Mike Deodato Jr. and Frank Martin, available now.

Marvel's Free Comic Book Day Avengers comic features Iron Man filling readers in on the various developments slated to take place in the near future. However, the very first panel, which shows Tony Stark in a frozen tundra setting, offers a clue teasing how things aren't what they seem thanks to the use of two simple words: "Somewhere. Sometime."

Though the absence of any satellites concerns the Avenger, the presence of predatory sabretooth cats makes Stark believe he's in the prehistoric Savage Land, an area found in the Marvel Universe Earth's Antarctica. However, upon further investigation, he soon realizes he's dealing with a time-travel adventure.

The cause of the time-travel is a device the Avengers dig up in the aftermath of War of the Realms, Marvel's current event series. Exactly what the device is remains a mystery for now, but it may be connected to Earth's Mightiest Heroes' confrontation with the Final Host Celestials, an adventure detailed at the beginning of writer Jason Aaron's run on the title.

But let's get back to Iron Man's fight against time and hungry sabretooth cats. Just as Iron Man's on the verge of having his metallic head eaten, Thor's Asgardian hammer Mjolnir flies in to save the day. Surprisingly, the person weilding the weapon isn't the God of Thunder -- it's his father Odin, backed by his teammates on the Avengers of 1,000,000 BC.

Avengers 10000 BC Marvel Legacy

The prehistoric Avengers are comprised of ancient predecessors to many classic heroes and entities in the Marvel Universe. Odin, as a stand-in for Thor, a cavewoman possessed by the Phoenix Force, Iron Fist, Agamotto the Sorcerer Supreme, Black Panther, Ghost Rider and a caveman marked with the Starbrand.

Fans first got a glimpse of this Avengers team in 2017's Marvel Legacy #1, where they fought and defeated a Celestial that had fallen to Earth. Loki later revealed the presence of the Celestial and the disease that ravaged it were contributing factors to creating the fascinating abilities in the Marvel U.

Aaron promised readers they'd see the 1,000,000 BC Avengers again, and this comic delivers in a big way, by having them meet one of the most recognizable Avengers in Iron Man. Standalone issues of Avengers have given each member of the BC team a spotlight, with stories so far focusing on the mammoth-mounting Ghost Rider and female Iron Fist, while other issues have explored the team's dynamic, including a love affair between the Allfather and Phoenix Force.

Feel free to place your bets that the Avengers of 1,000,000 BC will find their way to the present-day to fight alongside Iron Man against a threat unlike any other.
