In Christopher Cantwell and CAFU's Iron Man #1, Tony Stark moved from California to New York in a bid to start fresh. Tony's been through a lot lately, and he's come to realize that he is out of touch with the public. Therefore, he's opted for a back-to-basics approach in his continued superhero career. To reflect this new beginning, Stark made himself the perfect new armor, which blended his modern suits with a touch of a throwback to his '70s costume.
The look of this new Iron Man suit is definitely an homage to the past -- it even fits inside a suitcase, like it did before. But it's not all ancient. The suit is still equipped with Tony's state of the art technology, complete with a new A.I. system. And now, in Iron Man #2, we see just how powerful this new armor really is.
In Iron Man #2, Tony Stark's latest heart-to-heart with Patsy Walker is interrupted by a distress call. The two superheroes get called into action to stop obscure Spider-Man villain Cardiac, who has just kidnapped several employees from Stark Pharmaceutical.
Iron Man flies right to the villain's location, and he finds that he has built an opaque spherical prison for the scientists. The sphere has no air filtration system, which means the prisoners will soon die from a lack of oxygen. With very little time left, Tony attempts to energy blast through the prison, but it remains unaffected. His A.I. system reveals why that is the case: the sphere is primarily made up of vibranium and adamantium, two of the strongest metals in the Marvel Universe.
Flying at the fastest possible speed, Iron Man punches a hole straight through the sphere, breaking 17 bones in his body in the process. The superhero is left a broken mess, but his employees survive the ordeal, thanks to his efforts.
This feat shows how powerful Stark's latest armor really is. Adamantium and ivbranium are metals that are considered indestructible. The former has been laced to Wolverine's bone to make him an unbreakable killing machine, while the latter was used to create Captain America's shield. But now, Tony Stark has built something more powerful than both.
While the sphere wasn't made up of 100% pure vibranium or adamantium, but the suit was still able to impressively punch through something that was comprised of both metals, effectively bolstering the strength of one of the most powerful Avengers.
