Scarlet Witch has proven herself to be one of Earth's Mightiest Heroes in her live action Marvel Cinematic Universe appearances. As a member of the Avengers, she's come up against the galaxy's most threatening villains, and has shown she has the power and skill to do so. However, one previous version of Scarlet Witch didn't justly portray her character in all her glory. In the 1994 Iron Man animated series, her character was extremely downplayed, and the audience never got to see the full extent of her capabilities and personality.

Iron Man (1994) follows Tony Stark and his band of heroes (based on Force Works from the comics), Spider-Woman, Hawkeye, War Machine, Century and Scarlet Witch, as they battle The Mandarin throughout Season 1. But out of all of them, Scarlet Witch is the least impressive character. It seems that even Tony knows this; in Episode 2, he and Wanda work to crack villain Ultimo's alien code, and he says, "I think this is the one time when Scarlet Witch's singular gifts could be...useful."

While the two of them work on this alien code, Scarlet Witch begins to use her powers to crack it. But things start to get weird, as she begins to whisper, "Shalalalala." She then raises her arms and her whispers turn into a trill, gurgling sound, as if she's gargling mouthwash. It's a really strange scene, but apparently it works, and they're able to unlock Ultimo's alien code. This is probably the most helpful Wanda is in the entire series, and it's also the weirdest.

Additionally, a recurring plotline throughout the season is the love triangle between Scarlet Witch, Spider-Woman and Iron Man. Wanda and Julia make snide remarks at each other, showing disdain whenever Tony seems to favor one over the other. At times, it feels like Scarlet Witch is only there to add drama, as it's clear that Julia and Tony are the more likely couple, and they even end up getting "married" at the end of the season. The love triangle really distracts from her character, and the writers could have done so much more with her than mix her in with drama.

Iron Man (1994) missed out on a huge opportunity with Scarlet Witch. She's a much more powerful mutant than the show portrayed her to be, evident in her other appearances in animation, comics and films. Her upcoming WandaVision series will be sure to emphasize all that she is capable of.
