This article contains spoilers for the Infinity Comic Marvel's Voices #5, available now on the Marvel Unlimited application.

The Young Avengers are reuniting - though perhaps not in the medium most fans hoped. Marvel's Voices Infinity Comic is following up its Iceman series with a 5-issue short story focused on the Young Avengers reassembling, brought together by Nathaniel Richards / Iron Lad. This story is also set to introduce a slightly augmented line-up for the Young Avengers, including characters from both the team's 2000s and the 2010s incarnations.

The first issue begins in the middle of a conflict, with Iron Lad fighting against Kristoff Vernard / Doctor Doom in a void beyond time and space. As the two fight, Iron Lad harnesses the power of a M'kraan Crystal fragment in an attempt to summon the Young Avengers to his aid, an act which Kristoff says will curse the team. As he says this, the visuals depict Kate Bishop / Hawkeye, Billy Kaplan / Wiccan and Teddy Altman / Hulkling, Tommy Shepherd / Speed, David Alleyne / Prodigy, Cassie Lang / Stinger, and Ms. America Chavez.

Kristoff continues to fight Iron Lad and ultimately overpowers him - at least for now. Meanwhile, in the Marvel-616 universe, Billy and Teddy witness a mysterious new ship arriving in their airspace. The craft is said to have Teddy's long-dead mother aboard - though whether it is literally his mother or if it is instead the parasitic being Mother, the main villain of the Young Avengers (2013), is left ambiguous.

In recent years, Marvel has frequently teased the possibility of a Young Avengers reunion. For example, the short story "Celebration Dinner" in Marvel Comics #1000 (by Allan Heinberg, Jim Cheung, Frank Martin, and Joe Sabino) depicted the team reuniting under Eli Bradley / Patriot once more. However, there's been no sign of him in the Infinity Comic thus far.

Earlier this year, Hawkeye: Kate Bishop #5 (by Marieke Nijkamp, Oren Junior, Roberto Poggi, Enid Balám. Brittany Peer, Rachelle Rosenberg, and VC's Joe Caramagna) ended by implying that the team would be reuniting - though, again, under the leadership of Eli. Most recently, Loki reunited a few members of the team in the short story "All of My Exes in the Nexus" (by Alyssa Wong and Stephen Bryne), part of Marvel's Voices: Pride (2022) #1.

While an Infinity Comic is hardly the format most fans were hoping for, it isn't necessarily surprising that it is happening, especially as a follow-up to the Pride month Iceman comic. The original Young Avengers was a trailblazing comic for LGBTQ+ representation, with Billy and Teddy's friendship blossoming into a romantic relationship. The second volume, meanwhile, showcased Marvel's first majority-queer superhero team - potentially even the first all-queer team, given the running gag of Kate Bishop being closeted that started in the final issue of Young Avengers.

It's unclear if this Infinity Comic is the reunion fans have been waiting for or merely another mini-reunion build-up to the eventual proper print comic Young Avengers run. Either way, hopefully the series will satisfy fans aching for more Young Avengers content in the meantime.
