More than seven months after she joined the cast of Marvel's Iron Fist, we now know who Star Trek Into Darkness co-star Alice Eve plays in the second season of the Netflix drama: Daredevil foe Typhoid Mary.

The announcement was made this evening during the show's presentation at Comic-Con International in San Diego.

Introduced in 1988 by Ann Nocenti and John Romita Jr. in Marvel's Daredevil #254, Typhoid Mary is an enemy and former lover of Matt Murdock who possesses low-level psionic powers -- pyrokinesis, telekinesis, limited mind control -- as well as finely honed athletic and martial-arts abilities.

An assassin who suffers from dissociative identity disorder, Mary Walker manifests three additional personalities: the quiet and timid "Mary," the lustful and violent "Typhoid" and the sadistic "Bloody Mary."

"It was very, very violent," Eve said of her role. "The reason I took the role was because I got to play someone with multiple personalities."

Typhoid Mary

In the comics, Mary's mental condition was caused when a pre-Daredevil Matt Murdock pursued a criminal into the brothel where she worked. The woman there began to defend the criminal, surprising Murdock, who panicked, knocking Mary out a window. At that moment, she became Typhoid Mary, and vowed she would never allow another man to hurt her.

Frequently employed as an assassin by Wilson Fisk, aka Kingpin, Mary maintained a love-hate relationship with Daredevil, carrying on a romance with Matt Murdock even as she attempted to kill his alter ego.

It's unclear whether Iron Fist will maintain Typhoid Mary's connection to Daredevil. Of course, Marvel's Netflix dramas have only strengthened their connections since last year's Defenders, with Danny Rand and Colleen Wing both appearing in Luke Cage Season 2. Although Matt Murdock is still presumed dead following the events of Defenders' finale, there's obviously still room for him to fit into Mary's backstory.

Arriving Sept. 7 on Netflix, Marvel's Iron Fist Season 2 stars Finn Jones as Danny Rand, Jessica Henwick as Colleen Wing, Sacha Dhawan as Davos, Tom Pelphrey as Ward Meachum, Jessica Stroup as Joy Meachum, Simone Missick Misty Knight and introduces Alice Eve as Mary Walker.
