When it comes to action, Iron Fist Season 2 isn't holding back. Marvel Netflix hired Black Panther stunt coordinator Clayton J. Barber to pump up the fights in the upcoming season and, according to showrunner Raven Metzner and star Finn Jones, he has done that and more.
"I'd say we also evolve the action. We brought this amazing stunt coordinator Clayton Barber in. Also, all of our cast really -- look, they just went for it. They really pushed themselves," Metzner shared with press at Comic-Con International in San Diego. "Finn [Jones] really went to a place where he had months of lead time for the season to really, really hone his skills, and not just in fighting but also in stunt work and it was a really powerful experience."
"So I think the action has evolved, but I think it's not just that: the character stories as well," he continued. "We dug deeper into characters and deeper into relationships and I'm really, really proud of the dramatic side of the show as well. I think everyone's going to be excited about it. That's the really fun thing about these shows on Netflix and also the Marvel Universe in general, is that there's the action and there's the superhero element but there's also these really rich grounded characters."
"It's like what you said before. In every fight this season, they all have a reason. They have an emotional standpoint," Jones added. "They're driving the story forward. There's no fights just for the sake of 'hey let's get these two people together and fight.' It's all about driving the narrative and driving the characterization, which -- for an actor -- is great, because not only are you doing these awesome fight scenes, but you're also telling the story at the same time."
Arriving Sept. 7 on Netflix, Marvel’s Iron Fist Season 2 stars Finn Jones as Danny Rand, Jessica Henwick as Colleen Wing, Sacha Dhawan as Davos, Tom Pelphrey as Ward Meachum, Jessica Stroup as Joy Meachum, Simone Missick Misty Knight and introduces Alice Eve as Mary Walker.
