Netflix surprised a lot of people this past Friday when the giant streaming service announced that the fan-favorite Marvel television series Iron Fist had been canceled after two seasons. The news came as a shock, given that it had barely been a month since the second season, a season that most fans agreed greatly improved upon the misgivings of Season 1, was released.

Well, here we are now only a few days later, and already a fan petition to save the series from cancellation has surfaced online. The petition, which can be found on Change.org, has already reached over 10,000 signatures outs of its initial goal of 15,000.

"Netflix has made a terrible decision in cancelling Iron Fist after 2 seasons," the official message from the fan petition reads. "There are many fans of the character and the series and most people said that the second season was excellent. I think its unfair that Luke Cage, Jessica Jones and Daredevil get a third season and their shows get mixed reviews too yet Iron Fist gets the shaft. There is so much more potential and stories to be told and its not great fanservice to end the last season on a cliff hanger and not go along with it especially when the second season was more well recieved with critics and fans. So Netflix and Marvel please revise your decision and greenlight a third season for Iron Fist."

Season 2 of Iron Fist ended with quite a few promising cliffhangers -- not only was Colleen Wing christened as the new Iron Fist and defender of New York City, a traveling Danny Rand was now able to harness his chi out of a pair of pistols, a turn of events that signaled the arrival of Iron Fist comics character Orson Randall.

Following news of the cancellation, it's been reported that Danny Rand will continue to appear in upcoming Marvel Netflix television shows such as Jessica Jones and Luke Cage, but it's unclear if these appearances will resolve the cliffhangers of the Season 2 finale. For that level of resolution, fans just might need a third season.

Up next for Netflix's Marvel slate, Daredevil Season 3 is set to release this Friday, while Jessica Jones has already been renewed for a third season. There is no word yet on the future of Luke Cage, or The Defenders.
