Netflix's upcoming "Iron Fist" series has added another member to its cast. Marvel has announced that David Wenham ("Lord of the Rings," "300") has joined the cast of "Iron Fist" in the role of Harold Meachum.

The character is described as a "ruthless corporate leader" that "partners with Danny Rand's parents at the time of their deaths." Meachum played a pivotal role in Iron Fist's origin in the comics; he betrayed the Rand family during an expedition in the Himalayas, killing Wendell Rand and setting off a chain of events that led to the young Danny finding his way to K'un-Lun and eventually becoming Iron Fist. The official description does not reference these events, however, only hinting that "what role he plays in Danny's past and future will be revealed over the course of the series."

Wenham previously played Faramir in "The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers" and "The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King." He also played Dilios in "300" and "300: Rise of an Empire." Wenham joins a cast that includes Finn Jones in the lead role of Iron Fist and Jessica Henwick, who will play Colleen Wing.

In the series, said only to be "coming soon," Daniel Rand returns to New York City after being missing for years. There he fights the criminal element corrupting the city "with his incredible kung-fu mastery and ability to summon the awesome power of the fiery Iron Fist."

"Six Feet Under" and "Dexter" veteran Scott Buck will serve as showrunner on Netflix's "Iron Fist." With "Luke Cage" scheduled for a September 30 debut, it seems likely "Iron Fist" won't premiere until at least 2017.
