In the Invincible Season 1 finale, Omni-Man was more open than ever about his nefarious nature. But a moment that reflected on Mark Grayson's childhood possibly revealed that his father, Nolan, cared for his son more than he let on... or did it?

Showrunner Simon Racioppa said Invincible's creators wanted to get across that ambiguity. "Well, that's a good question, but that's a question that I can't answer," Racioppa said of the show's baseball game flashback in an interview with /Film. "In my head, I know what I think he is thinking and what I think he's doing, but I think every audience member should interpret that their own way. Hopefully, in Season 2 or 3, we'll be able to add to that interpretation in people's heads, so they can decide how genuine or conflicted they think Nolan is."

The flashback showed Mark as a boy playing baseball, while a grumpy Nolan stands off to the side, wanting to be anywhere else or at least use his Omni-Man powers to view the game from the sky. His wife, Debbie, speaks to him about the joy that comes from being a parent, and we see Nolan's reactions; his attitude softens and he cheers as Mark gets a hit and rounds the bases on the way to scoring a run.

"To me, that delights me, that people have different interpretations of this character," Racioppa said. "It seems like we did our jobs well if you're like, 'Oh my God, is he telling the truth, is he lying?' That’s something we want."

Invincible stars Steven Yeun, J.K.
