In the Invincible TV series, Robot has pretty much kept consistent with the shady character from the comics. He's already freed the Mauler Twins, which initially suggested he wanted to improve his own team in the new Guardians of the Globe. However, the fact he's so secretive, even keeping things from Cecil and the Global Defense Agency, hints at something more sinister. But in Invincible's latest episode, a secret project proves Robot really is more hero than villain, paving the way for possible redemption.
Robot is giving it his all in the field, as seen when he tried to save Mark from Battle Beast's team. Sadly, Mark, Monster Girl and Black Samson were smashed and left near death. This episode shows Robot in the aftermath when they're rushed to the emergency room, wanting to help the GDA doctors with Monster Girl but not knowing how to activate her healing factor.
Robot studied her physiology, so he can stop her de-aging process. However, things are a mess as her monster form emerges, leaving her in a coma. They can't pierce her with needles, but Robot's adamant they need materials like wolfsbane because it isn't a disease, it's a magical curse.
Later, Robot brings a drone in that went to the Arctic and fought mysterious enemies to get a Cerulean Cosmos (a unique blue flower), so the doctors can extract chemicals and help save her. Robot even sits next to Monster Girl, indicating he cares and can't lose her. Samson's next door and calls out Robot for showing emotions. Robot says he's programmed to care for all his teammates, but Samson admits Robot didn't go to these extents for him, which brings Robot to an epiphany.
Robot's intentions feel even more earnest when we see his project with the DNA experts, the Maulers. He visits them at their lair, making it clear he needs the genetic project -- building a new body -- to be expedited. In the comics, this body was for him, so he could befriend Monster Girl. However, as of now, his ultimate endgame remains unclear.
While they could be platonic, Robot's feelings might be romantic. It could even be that he's building her a new body, feeling sorry for what she endured. Monster Girl's been robbed of her life, so it may be the ultimate way of Robot selflessly going to extreme measures to make her whole and feeling like a human again.
