The acclaimed Image Comics/Skybound Entertainment series Invincible is coming to Amazon Prime Video as an animated series, and creator Robert Kirkman has big plans for the television adaptation.

Kirkman, who developed the series for television after co-creating the comic book series with Cory Walker and Ryan Ottley, sees the adaptation lasting for several seasons. And even beyond adapting the 144-issue story that ran from 2003-2018, Kirkman hopes to have the animated series craft stories beyond what was told in the original comic run.

"I think that we could possibly tell the entirety in anywhere from five to seven seasons; obviously, there would be differences if there were five seasons than if we were able to do seven seasons," Kirkman explained in a roundtable interview attended by CBR following comments by series star J.K. Simmons that the show was planned to run for several seasons. "All that said, I think in a perfect world, it may be interesting to go beyond what we did in the comics and continue the show past that. There's certainly other aspects of the story that could be told that we didn't tell in the comics, so who knows what we could do in the future, but I think J.K. is right. The plan is to do a good number of seasons and tell, at least, the full length of Invincible's journey as it was told in comic book form."

Invincible follows teenager Mark Grayson, the son of the world's most revered superhero, Omni Man. After developing his own superpowers, Mark develops the superhero persona Invincible and sets out to follow in his father's footsteps before discovering the dark truths behind the world he lives in. The series has already earned rave reviews, including a positive advance review on CBR.
