The series, by Robert Kirkman and Cory Walker, ran for 144 issues from 2003-2018. throughout the series, Mark decided to become Invincible and follow in the footsteps of his dad, Omni-Man.

The trailer for the upcoming Amazon series showcases Mark training under his father, Omni-Man. At first glance, Invincible looks like an alternate version of Jonathon and Clark Kent. Though it may look like Omni-Man is a valiant hero and good dad, it turns out he's actually a ruthless villain that tries to kill Mark.

Following the deaths of the Guardians of the Globe, Invincible's version of the Justice League, it's revealed that Omni-Man murdered his former teammates. Interestingly, the leader, the Immortal, is resurrected and begins to fight him in the sky. When Mark sees the battle happening, he speeds over to figure out why his two idols are duking it out, especially considering that Immortal should be dead.

But when he gets there, Omni-Man reveals that he's kept a secret from Mark. He explains that everything he knows about their species, the Viltrumites, is a lie. Mark was led to believe the aliens sent Omni-Man as an ambassador to Earth to oversee and help them so they could evolve, but he's really been sent there to conquer it. They then enslave, assimilate and drain planets of their resources, adding the willing prisoners to their army and killing the rest.

His job was to scour for intel and infiltrate, but he didn't foresee loving Mark's mom, Debbie, and having a child with her. This is against protocol, but nonetheless, Omni-Man makes it clear that Earth -- and Debbie -- are doomed. Mark refuses to accept it, however, as he considers himself an Earthling and wants his father to resist. This leads to a bloody fight, which an inexperienced Mark has no chance of winning.

Omni-Man drags him to all ends of the globe, crushing his bones and beating him to a bloody pulp. Still, he keeps faith and wants Mark to join the dark side, indicating they'll just grow old and watch the planet die if they tried to be normal. Mark states that he'd be ok with it because at least he'd have his father, which gets to Omni-Man. Rather than deliver the killing blow, he breaks down and flees Earth in tears, leaving Mark to nurse his wounds and deal with the harsh reality he's suddenly discovered.
