Invincible fans can get their first look at the upcoming animated series thanks to Free Comic Book Day. For the event, Skybound and Image Comics released a reprint of the first Invincible comic by Robert Kirkman and Cory Walker. Skybound noted on its official Twitter that the issue would only be available via comic shops.

Twitter user @DavinoDavinoo posted screenshots of the extra material in the issue. The images show that the series boasts a stylized animation that is fairly close to Walker's original designs.

Characters showcased include Invincible himself, as well as his fellow superheroes Atom Eve and Robot. Perhaps the biggest change is evident in Amber Bennett, Mark's first girlfriend. To reflect the voice casting of Zazie Beetz, Amber is now African-American; an image of her and Mark together also suggests that the two will meet earlier than they did in the comics.

The Invincible series centers around Mark Grayson, who inherits his father Nolan's superpowers. Mark soon follows his father in the family business and must deal with the ups and downs of superheroism.

Amazon placed an eight-episode order for the Invincible animated series in mid-2018. The show is helmed by showrunner Simon Racioppa, who will also serve as executive producer alongside Kirkman and David Alpert -- through their production company, Skybound -- and Catherine Winder. It is currently scheduled to hit Amazon Prime Video in 2020.
