A talented Inuyasha fan created a cosplay that perfectly captured Kikyo's elegance and skill.

Posted on Reddit by lovemisswhitney, the cosplay recreates the Shrine Maiden's signature red-and-white outfit and sees the character wielding a long bow. The cosplayer's expression in the image also reflects Kikyo's cold and intimidating nature. Moreover, lovemisswhitney has created other impressive costumes for fan-favorite anime characters like One Piece's Boa Hancock, Chainsaw Man's Kobeni and Spy x Family's Yor.

What Is Rumiko Takahashi's Inuyasha About?

Created by Rumiko Takahashi and published in Shogakukan's Weekly Shōnen Sunday from November 1996 to June 2008, the Inuyasha manga tells the story of the titular half-demon as he attempts to use the sacred Shikon Jewel to gain more power. However, the narrative opens with Inuyasha getting shot by Kikyo, his then-lover and the protector of the Jewel, and sealed to a tree; Kikyo sadly dies shortly after. Once many years pass, a fifteen-year-old high school student named Kagome falls backward through time, finding herself in the Sengoku period, and eventually awakens Inuyasha. The pair set off on a journey to recover the shattered shards of the Jewel and encounter a resurrected Kikyo along the way.

Inuyasha has sold over 50 million copies globally, making it one of the best-selling manga of all time, alongside Takahashi's other series Ranma ½. Moreover, it won the shōnen category at the 47th Shogakukan Manga Awards in 2002.

Studio Sunrise adapted Takahashi's manga into two anime -- Inuyasha and Inuyasha: The Final Act -- which aired between 2000 and 2010, together producing 193 episodes. The story also spawned a wealth of adaptations in other mediums, including feature films, light novels and video games. A stageplay version of Inuyasha was first performed in 2000 at the Akasaka ACT Theater in Tokyo.

In 2020, Inuyasha received a sequel anime series, Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon, that has aired for two seasons. The plot follows the adventures of Towa and Setsuna -- the twin daughters of Inuyasha's half-brother Sesshomaru and a human woman named Rin -- as they seek to find lost memories and reunite with their parents. Inuyasha and Kagome's kid, Moroha, joins the duo on their journey. Some fans have speculated about a possible third season of Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon, but nothing has been confirmed at the time of writing.

The Inuyasha manga is distributed in North America by VIZ Media, while Sunrise's anime adaptations are available to stream on Hulu.
