With commercial and critical success of Sony's animated Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse presents a wealth of possibilities for the budding franchise, with the studio already planning a sequel, as well as a spinoff headlined by Gwen Stacy. But don't worry, the producers haven't forgotten the scene-stealing Spider-Man, voiced by John Mulaney.

Acknowledging the character's spinoff potential, producer Amy Pascal told Vanity Fair, “Of course! You can imagine how much the kids love that character." “Yeah," added franchise veteran Avi Arad, "we want piggy.”

An anthropomorphic pig also known as, yes, Peter Porker, the Spectacular Spider-Ham was introduced in 1983 in a one-shot parody by Tom DeFalco and Mark Armstrong before going on to headline his own children's comics series. Spider-Ham hails from Earth-8311, also known as the Larval Earth, populated by funny-animal versions of Marvel Comics characters. Peter Porker was a radioactive pig who bit a spider and acquired the abilities that transformed him into Spider-Ham.

The character has also been featured in video games, on animated television and, now, on film. He played an integral role in Marvel Comics' 2014 event "Spider-Verse," which inspired Into the Spider-Verse.

Directed by Bob Persichetti, Peter Ramsey and Rodney Rothman, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse stars Shameik Moore, Brian Tyree Henry, Jake Johnson, Mahershala Ali, Hailee Steinfeld, Liev Schreiber, Luna Lauren Velez, Lily Tomlin, Nicolas Cage, John Mulaney and Kimiko Glenn. The film is in theaters now.
