AMC has renewed Anne Rice's Interview with the Vampire for Season 2 ahead of the new series' premiere, set to be released exclusively on AMC and AMC+ in October.

Set in Europe, the second season will include eight episodes. Oscar and Emmy Award-winning producer Mark Johnson (Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul) and showrunner Rodin Jones (Perry Mason, Friday Night Lights) will continue to executive produce the show. Adapted from Anne Rice's gothic novel Interview with the Vampire, the new series revolves around the story of love, blood and immortality centering on Louis de Pointe du Lac (Jacob Anderson), Lestat de Lioncourt (Sam Reid) and Claudia (Bailey Bass), as told to journalist Daniel Molloy (Eric Bogosian).

Along with the renewal announcement, Dan McDermott, the president of original programming for AMC Networks and AMC Studios, expressed his confidence in the new series and teased potential viewers of a sensual experience. "The scope and breadth of this show, and what Mark and Rolin have delivered, is just stupendous," said McDermott. "They have rendered the rich and vibrant world of Anne Rice's Interview in a wonderful way, and we're incredibly proud." He praised the production's attention to detail "from the set build, to production design, costumes and more" as well as the cast's "powerful" performances.

Oh, the Places Lestat and Louis Will Go

Jones revealed the new series will take fans around the globe to places like Bulgaria, Romania, Paris, San Francisco, New Orleans and Dubai. The showrunner said he and the writers' room are "honored, humbled, and hungry to add more stamps to our vamps' passport books," adding that they "endeavor not to screw it up." Executive producer Johnson described the opportunity to revisit the world of Interview with the Vampire as "irresistible." With AMC greenlighting Season 2, he said he hopes to "take full advantage of the wonders bestowed upon us by Anne Rice."

The upcoming AMC series is the second adaptation of Rice's novel after the 1994 film Interview with the Vampire, starring Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise, Kirsten Dunst, Antonio Banderas and Christian Slater. Rice, who passed away in 2021, previously entered into a deal with AMC to build a shared TV universe based on 18 of her novels. The network is also developing a second Immortal Universe series -- an adaptation of Rice's Lives of the Mayfair Witches trilogy.

Anne Rice's Interview with a Vampire will premiere on AMC on Oct. 2 with the first two episodes available on AMC+ the same night.
