Sony subsidiary Insomniac Games is currently working on a new multiplayer title which will act as a brand new IP in the studio's growing stable.

As spotted by GamesRadar, a job listing posted eleven months ago shows Insomniac searching for an art director for the unannounced title. The listing doesn't include many details about the game, but it states that the art director will help with "pre-production planning and new IP development." The listing also asks that prospective employees be comfortable operating in the context of a "multiplayer environment."

Further details are scarce within the listing, but it is specific about the title being a "new IP." This means that the multiplayer title will not be a follow-up to any of Insomniac's existing games -- Sunset Overdrive fans will have to wait a bit longer for that -- but something entirely new. While some players might have expected the studio's second Spider-Man game to bring co-op to the series, as both Peter Parker and Miles Morales appear to be playable, the studio has confirmed that the game will be an exclusively single-player experience.

In addition to Spider-Man and Sunset Overdrive, Insomniac is also responsible for the Ratchet & Clank series (including the recently critically revered Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart) and an upcoming game based on Marvel's Wolverine. While the studio's new multiplayer IP won't directly relate to any of those titles, they give a decent picture of Insomniac's general sensibilities and what audiences can expect from their upcoming game.

Insomniac recently made waves with a generous donation to the Women's Reproductive Rights Assistance Act. The donation, which ran the studio $50,000 and was matched by Sony, came in response to a controversial email issued by PlayStation President Jim Ryan, asking that employees respect "differences of opinions" on the topic of reproductive rights within Sony. Insomniac has not commented on the donation and likely will not, as Sony leadership has made it difficult for the studio to issue a public statement on the topic.

Insomniac's next multiplayer game doesn't have a release date, a title, or even an official announcement as of yet. There is also no official word on what platforms the game will launch on, although the Sony-owned company may continue to release its titles exclusively on its own platforms. In the meantime, players can look forward to Insomniac's Spider-Man 2, slated for release in 2023, and Wolverine, which does not currently have a release window. Both games will launch exclusively on PlayStation 5.
