A new clip from the upcoming animated adaptation of Injustice shows the moments just before the Man of Steel brings the Clown Prince of Crime's life to a gruesome end.The clip, shared to Twitter by IGN, opens on a scene longtime Injustice fans are sure to be familiar with: Batman (Anson Mount) interrogating -- and arguing with -- the Joker (Kevin Pollak), the latter of whom had just tricked Superman (Justin Hartley) into killing his wife, Lois Lane (Laura Bailey), and leveling the city Metropolis with a nuclear blast in the process. Superman soon breaks into the interrogation room and takes a swing at the Joker, though the clip cuts out just before he makes contact.RELATED: Exclusive Injustice Clip Splits the Justice League Into Team Superman and Team Batman

This scene is taken directly from the video game that started it all: 2013's Injustice: Gods Among Us from NetherRealm Studios. The Mortal Kombat-esque fighting game centers on a grief-stricken Superman, who establishes martial law, divides the Justice League and comes to rule Earth as a merciless dictator, with the moment he killed the Joker being recognized as his point of no return.

While the opening cutscene of the first Injustice video game cuts to black just before Superman actually kills the Joker, DC Comics' Injustice: Gods Among Us #4 by Tom Taylor, Mike S. Miller and Alejandro Sanchez shows the moment in graphic detail, with the Last Son of Krypton plunging his arm directly through the chest of Batman's arch-nemesis, all while the Dark Knight himself looks on in horror. The animated Injustice film is said to take inspiration from the original video game, as well as the comics written by Taylor.
