WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Injustice: Year Zero #10, by Tom Taylor, Roge Antonio, Rain Beredo, and Wes Abbott, on sale now.

Injustice: Year Zero has found Joker at his very worst, killing Wesley Dodds/Sandman, leaving Alan Scott/Green Lantern on the brink of death, and also throwing Harley Quinn off a balcony to see if his mind-control powers are still leveling up. It's all part of him toying with the Amulet of Apophis, which belonged to an Egyptian Lord of Chaos, to see how he could master its powers. As usual, he's having tons of fun spilling blood as he experiments.

Now, the Joker has started starts taking out members of the Justice Society of America to hurt the Justice League, and Injustice: Year Zero #10 finds him brutally killing a fan-favorite Flash, Jay Garrick.

The Flash Barry Allen Jay Garrick Injustice

This issue picks up with Joker possessing Jay Garrick's body and taking the speedster to the Commonpaw Gym in New Jersey, where he's run straight through Ted Grant/Wildcat's sparring partner and begins boxing with the JSA hero. But as expected, Joker uses Jay's speed to pummel Wildcat, leaving the ring an even bloodier mess. But just as he's about to deliver the final blow, Barry Allen arrives after picking up the disturbance on the radio.

The Flash grabs Jay's hand, but he can tell this isn't his mentor as they talk. Jay catches him off-guard, though, and cuts an artery in his leg, slowing Barry down. Jay speeds off and Barry gives chase, as Joker uses Jay to slit the throats of dozens of people in the streets. By this time, Barry has alerted Superman, and the Man of Steel speeds over to Jersey, using his heat vision to bring Jay to a halt in the road.

Kal-El isn't sure what's going on but before he can attempt to interrogate, Jay speeds off again, leaving him and Barry eating his dust. They're too slow to catch up to Jay, and the Joker tortures the Justice Leaguers by making Jay run full-speed into a wall. Due to the high amount of kinetic energy, the impact is severe, and Jay basically turns into a missile and Jay explodes, apparently vaporizing himself and leaving nothing but his helmet behind.

Barry's left clutching it, regretting they couldn't catch the old speedster. While this is unquestionably an ignoble end for the original Flash, there may be some cause for hope.

In the final moments before Jay runs into the wall, there appears to be some lightning, which means that he could have jumped into the Speed Force if he took back control of a sliver of his mind before death. In the fight against Wildcat, Jay regained control for a split-second, telling Ted to run before Joker assumed full control again. While this could just be wishful thinking, this would give the lovable, experienced hero a happier end.  But as it stands, Jay Garrick is just another victim in the Joker's body count, as the Clown Prince of Crime continues his telepathic murder spree.
