WARNING: The following article contains spoilers for Injustice 2 #70 by Tom Taylor, Bruno Redondo, Juan Albarran, Rex Lokus and Wes Abbott, on sale now.

The Injustice universe has been war-torn, to say the least. Thanks to the fallout from the battle between Superman and Batman, superheroes and villains on either side have ravaged Earth. Not content to remain on-planet, even DC's cosmic realm has seen its fair share of damage due to Brainiac sniffing out the vulnerable state of the planet.

The Injustice 2 comics proceeded to offer fans a rare ray of sunshine thanks to the nuptials of Suicide Squad members, Killer Croc and Orca. They fell in love in a hopeless place, amid their murder sprees where they were used by Ra's al Ghul as eco-terrorists. The duo recognized they could take respite in each other's arms and thus, a romance blossomed over time.

In Injustice 2 #70 though, as they're about to enter into matrimony, we find out another couple has apparently been married all this time without anyone knowing: Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy!

This issue opens up with the maids of honor tending to Orca on her big day. Cheetah, Katanna and Poison Ivy are there, helping to dress the bride-to-be while reminiscing about the journey so far, and this unlikely happy ending. Ivy admits she didn't see this coming, to which Orca agrees, pointing out that being held hostage by the likes of Amanda Waller and then Ra's because of explosives implanted in her brain really doesn't inspire optimism.

At this point, Ivy admits marriage was never in the cards for her, as she opens up about the time she and Harley went to Vegas. It seems like an innocent statement one could easily gloss over, but there are actually layers to it.

Ivy's words here reference Issue #33, where Ivy and Harley spent the night together before breaking off their relationship. Harley wanted to side with Batman, but Ivy left her in the wee hours of the morning to align with Ra's, who wanted all animal and plant life to rule the Earth. Harley hated Ra's, as she had just recovered her daughter Lucy from him, before rekindling her romance with Ivy in her old apartment while trying to turn her away from the League of Assassins. Tracing Ivy's words back to that fateful night, though, we see a picture with the couple and the Elvis impersonator, which Issue #70 now confirms to be them in Vegas through Ivy's words.

The couple are celebrating in the image and as Ivy comes off a bit lovesick when talking to Orca about the flashback, it's pretty obvious she and Harley got married, and Orca's wedding is stirring up old memories she tried to forget. Avid readers should recall Harley's jokes about Elvis impersonators as priests marrying people in Vegas. Back then it seemed to be a throwaway joke between budding friends, but now it's all there to piece together, with this picture actually holding more sentiment than first assumed. It's an official symbol of their union, albeit one they've kept off the books.

It's no wonder they always made sure whenever their opposing teams fought, they'd protect each other no matter what in the heat of battle. One can't help but feel for Ivy because she placed duty ahead of her wife, and as we saw recently, Harley's trying her best to save the world too in her own way. Hopefully, they get some closure or if they're lucky enough, just like these Squad members, maybe even a happy ending.
