Injustice 2 almost included brutalities.

A brutality is a finishing move that originated from Injustice 2 developer NetherRealm Studios' other fighting game franchise, Mortal Kombat. Unlike the more commonly known "fatality" finisher, which can occur after an opponent has lost all their health, a brutality requires certain parameters to be performed and a final move that comes while the opponent is down to a sliver of health left. As revealed by ermaccer on YouTube, brutalities were coded for Supergirl, Aquaman and Superman, but left unfinished and out of the final game.

In the video, viewers can see that some brutalities were started but never animated, while some only had its final moments animated. An example of this is a Supergirl brutality that would have left the opponent stuck halfway in the ground headfirst. One brutality can be seen fully though, belonging to the Man of Steel. This brutality stems from his "Heat Vision" special move, taking out the opponent in a violent fashion.

The absence of brutalities in Injustice 2 comes after the game added many other features not seen in its predecessor, Injustice: Gods Among Us. While the first game only allowed for different skins to be equipped for characters, the sequel introduced an entire gear and customization system, as well as microtransactions and loot boxes. The game also featured two Mortal Kombat icons, being that Raiden and Sub-Zero were available to play as DLC characters.

The only Injustice character to make the leap over to Mortal Kombat's gory universe and actually have brutalities is the Joker, who was available as a DLC character for Mortal Kombat 11. There are six brutalities for the Clown Prince of Crime, as well as two main fatalities. Of course, DC Comics fans can also play as The Batman Who Laughs from Dark Knights: Metal and Death Metal, though it requires customizing Noob Saibot with the appearance.

Injustice: Gods Among Us and Injustice 2 revolve around what could happen if Superman lost his family and decided to take over the world to end crime. The game not only launched an entire saga of Elseworld stories for DC Comics, but paved the way for an animated adaptation released in 2021. As of right now, there is little word on what an Injustice 3 game may include, though some rumors and potential leaks suggest that characters like John Constantine and the Anti-Monitor will be playable, along with other fan-favorites for the main and DLC rosters.

Injustice 2 is available to purchase for PC and next generation consoles, specifically Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
