WARNING: The following article contains spoilers for Injustice 2 #67 by Tom Taylor, Daniel Sampere, Juan Albarran, Rex Lokus and Wes Abbott, on sale now.

In the Injustice universe, Batman often has his plate full. After taking down Superman's regime, the Dark Knight is now trying to rebuild the world, although the damage done from the DC civil war is making this a job easier said than done. In the midst of this drama, Bruce has had to deal with the loss of Nightwing (Dick Grayson), his son Damian turning on him and siding with the Kryptonian, and the death and resurrection of Alfred.

All of this has left Bruce as untrusting as ever, with his war against Superman and so many ex-heroes such as Wonder Woman, Flash and Green Lantern, taking a mental toll on him. As he looks towards Earth's future though, one which Brainiac plans to reshape, the Dark Knight is now presented with a tough choice if he wants society to truly blossom again.

With allies few and far between, and heroes as scarce in numbers as ever in this sequel, Batman does the unthinkable and makes an alliance with none other than Ra's al Ghul.

The Demon's Head has been a force to be reckoned with in the Injustice 2 comics as his League of Assassins has expanded into a villainous society, boasting the likes of Poison Ivy, Killer Croc, as well as lesser known faces like Orca. The majority of the al Ghul family, while not in the game, factor in big time, with Talia and Athanasia (Bruce's daughter) breaking Damian out of prison; and Ra's embarking on killing industrialists who harmed the environment. His climate protection quest even claimed the life of Ted Kord aka the Blue Beetle, drawing Batman's wrath.

However, with Athanasia in jail, Alfred (ironically resurrected in the Lazarus Pit by Damian) visits her and tries to form a bond. He's still reeling from being revived and as he opens up, she finally has a vulnerable moment herself, telling him she died at 16 and was reborn as Ra's' weapon. While her origin is yet to be fully explored, Alfred is clearly breaking down her walls, emphasizing Bruce isn't the man she thinks he is; he's a hero, unlike her grandfather.

Following their exchange, Alfred then confronts Bruce, who's having a date with Catwoman at the mansion, and tells him he needs to be the bigger man and prove to Athanasia that forgiveness exists in this world. The butler tells Bruce he should make amends with Ra's as he'll need all the help he can get if he's to rebuild things once more. More so, Alfred believes this is what Bruce needs to embrace, second chances, all so he can step out of the darkness and create a new world order, steeped in light.

Bruce is visibly shaken but admits he really does require assistance in forming an army to protect the planet and so he agrees, once the world's leaders give their blessing (as Batman doesn't want to act unsanctioned anymore). A potential pact shows huge growth for the cynical superhero and he does view it as a means of showing the incarcerated Athanasia what the righteous path is, also making up for his failures with Damian and Jason Todd (who joined Ra's as an evil Batman).

The Caped Crusader sends Harley Quinn as his emissary to broker the deal, taking Alfred's words to heart when he said Thomas Wayne would want his son to heal, not punish. She states the Bat's case in front of Ra's and his gorilla general, Solivar, indicating her presence and overall diplomacy is no trick, and that Batman genuinely wants to move forward so they can save the planet together.

It's a good idea on paper but it'll definitely be an uneasy alliance with deadly repercussions if things go awry. Hopefully Bruce knows what he's doing because Ra's has murdered thousands before, and at the drop of a hat, the villain won't hesitate to kill innocents again.
