After a year of buildup, the conflict between the Inhumans and the X-Men is about to come to a head. Announced during this year's Comic-Con International in San Diego, "Inhumans vs. X-Men" comes from writers Charles Soule and Jeff Lemire and artist Leinil Yu. Little is known about the "IvX" event, which follows October's "Death of X" event. The latter will reveal the past inciting incident in the war between the mutants and Inhumans as well as the fate of Cyclops; the former will take place in present day and potentially establish a new status quo for the feuding Marvel factions moving forward.

Marvel has provided CBR with an exclusive first look at a variant cover for "Inhumans vs. X-Men" #1 from artist Kenneth Rocafort. Rocafort will also provide interior artwork for the series' #0 issue. The cover depicts both the Inhumans and X-Men and stylistically shows off their opposing viewpoints.

EXCLUSIVE: "Inhumans vs. X-Men" #1 variant cover by Kenneth Rocafort

Marvel Editor-in-Chief Axel Alonso spoke about the event briefly during a panel at CCI, saying: “We’ve been building to this moment for some time. In winter, we’ll do this story co-written by Jeff Lemire and Charles Soule, with art by Leinil Yu. The Terrigen Mist has a detrimental effect to mutants but it sustains the Inhumans, so there are natural antagonism. You have two species fighting for survival, and maybe only one can win.”

The "Inhumans vs. X-Men" event kicks off with the release of issue #0 on November 16. "Inhumans vs. X-Men" #1, including Rocafort's variant, arrives in stores on December 7.
