A new trailer for ABC's Inhumans puts the show's action at the forefront while continuing to tease the Royal Family's civil war for control of Attilan, the moving city that serves as home for the Inhumans. The trailer also teases a major change for one of the series' central characters – Medusa, the queen of the Inhumans, who is glimpsed at the trailer's end sans several feet of hair.

Medusa's shaved head signals a major change for the character, whose mutant power manifests as prehensile control over her hair. But Medusa's power goes much deeper than hair that can simple grasp or brawl. In the comics, she once sentenced Venom to corporal punishment for what she believed was the murder of Spider-Man. Medusa was able to move her hair so quickly that she created small sonic booms capable of harming the nearly-impervious symbiote.

For Medusa to lose her hair means that she has lost her defining trait, but that doesn't mean she's helpless. The trailer confirms as much, as the Queen of the Inhumans can be seen engaging in hand-to-hand combat and, seemingly, coming out on top, all without the help of her mutant locks. While the new look might be shocking, it's not the first time Medusa's short hair has been glimpsed. Last March, set photos got out showing Serinda Swan's surprising cut. At the time it was easy to write off the haircut as a production necessity, but now it seems it's a full-blown part of the Inhumans narrative.

The first two episodes of Inhumans premieres Sept. 1 in IMAX theaters, followed by their broadcast debut Friday, Sept. 29, at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC. The drama stars Anson Mount as Black Bolt, Iwan Rheon as Maximus the Mad, Serinda Swan as Queen Medusa, Ken Leung as Karnak, Isabelle Cornish as Crystal, Eme Ikwuakor as Gorgon, Mike Moh as Triton and Sonya Balmores as Auran.
