Just one issue and a one-shot prelude in, and Marvel Comics' Infinity Wars has already shaken the Marvel Universe to its core. Heroes and villains have died, a Guardian of the Galaxy has broken bad, and the Avengers appear all but powerless to prevent things from deteriorating further. And according to series writer Gerry Duggan, things are only going to get bigger, badder and, well, weirder from here -- especially once the Infinity Warps arrive.
In Infinity Wars #2, the anticipated characters, which are combinations of two existing heroes and/or villains, will finally make their comic book debut after = months of teases. In addition to sharing the first look at Adam Kubert's art for Infinity Wars Soldier Supreme, a two-part series starring a character who is Captain America crossed with Doctor Strange, Duggan offered a new hint regarding the still-mysterious origins of the upcoming Marvel mash-up characters.
"I’ve got to be careful about spoilers when talking about this," Duggan told CBR. "At one point in time though Thanos used the Infinity Stones to cut the number of souls in the universe by half. He did that by killing people. History may be repeating itself here, but in a totally new and unexpected way. Because we just might be halving the number of souls in the universe by mashing them together.
"That’s a pretty meaty statement, but you’ll have to tune into Infinity Wars #2-#3 to really get a sense of where of that’s heading. Infinity Wars #3 really sets the table for that universe in a great way."
Infinity Wars Soldier Supreme #1 arrives stores Wednesday, September 19. It will be followed by several other Infinity Warps miniseries starring Weapon Hex, Arachknight, Ghost Panther and Iron Hammer.
