Infinity War Collides With Trump-Putin Summit in Meme Shared By James Gunn

Thanos Josh Brolin

What would happen if Captain America used the same tactics as President Donald Trump? A meme shared on Twitter by Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn hypothesizes a very different ending to Marvel's blockbuster Avengers: Infinity War.

Gunn, who was an executive producer on Infinity War, took to social media with his reaction to the summit between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, which took place Monday in Helsinki, Finland. Trump drew widespread criticism with his claim that he believed Putin when he said Russia didn't interfere in the 2016 U.S. presidential election, contrary to the conclusion of American intelligence agencies.

In a razor-sharp comparison, the meme shows Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) attempting to brush off the actions of Thanos who in Infinity War destroyed half of all life in the universe with the snap of his fingers.

The original source of the meme is unknown. Gunn has had plenty to say about politics and Trump on his Twitter account, but this time he was reduced to a succinct "Yup."

Thanos will return in the still-untitled 2019 sequel to Infinity War. The U.S. midterm elections will be held in November.
