Following the low-quality recording that circulated on Tuesday, a better version of the new Avengers: Infinity War television spot has surfaced online, depicting the threat by Thanos to wipe humanity from existence.

"You're strong," Josh Brolin's Mad Titan says with an unnerving calmness, "but I could snap my fingers, and you'd all cease to exist."

As we noted previously, the moment is drawn from the 1991 Marvel Comics crossover The Infinity Gauntlet, by Jim Starlin, George Pérez and Ron Lim, in which Thanos, in possession of all six Infinity Gems (or Stones in the Marvel Cinematic Universe), demonstrates his power with a simple snap: Half of the creatures in the known universe are suddenly wiped from existence.

In Infinity War, that's not necessarily a threat but rather part of Thanos' misguided, yet somehow noble, plan to destroy one-half of the universe to save the other. “That’s either genius or horrific, depending on your point of view,” Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige said, “and most of our point of views say it’s pretty horrific.”

The Mad Titan had previously recommended that his dying planet exterminate half its population, but he was dismissed and exiled by his people. And after Titan's doom, Thanos decided to experiment with his idea on a larger scale.

Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Infinity War stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, Scarlett Johansson, Paul Bettany, Anthony Mackie, Paul Rudd, Elizabeth Olsen, Tom Holland, Benedict Cumberbatch, Chadwick Boseman, Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Tom Hiddleston and Josh Brolin, among others. The film opens April 27 worldwide.
