Three weeks away from the worldwide premiere of Avengers: Infinity War, and we can already dismiss one Infinity Stone theory.

One Marvel Cinematic Universe fan floated the possibility that Him, better known as Adam Warlock, is in the possession of the Soul Stone, only to have that promptly dismissed by James Gunn, writer/director of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

You would be 99% incorrect then. Sorry!— James Gunn (@JamesGunn) April 5, 2018

"99% sure the Soul Stone is with HIM!," Leo Rabelo wrote on Twitter, accompanied by an image from Marvel Comics' Infinity Gauntlet of Adam Warlock wielding the titular glove.

"You would be 99% incorrect then," Gunn replied. "Sorry!"

Infinity War draws inspiration from the iconic 1991 comic storyline that pitted the major Marvel superheroes against Thanos after the Mad Titan obtained the all-powerful Infinity Gauntlet in a bid to impress Death. Adam Warlock's debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe was teased in a mid-credits scene for Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2. Contrary to widespread speculation, Gunn has said Adam Warlock won't appear in Infinity War.

The Soul Stone is the only one of the six Infinity Stones still unaccounted for in the MCU. The Space Stone introduced in Thor has since been revealed to be in Loki's possession following the events of Thor: Ragnarok; the Mind Stone introduced in The Avengers resides in the forehead of The Vision following the character's introduction in Avengers: Age of Ultron; the Power Stone was first seen in Guardians of the Galaxy is in the custody of the Nova Corps on Xandar; the Reality Stone introduced in Thor: The Dark World is still in the possession of The Collector on Knowhere; and the Time Stone that premiered in Doctor Strange is under the care of the Sorcerer Supreme.
