WARNING: The following article contains major spoilers for Avengers: Infinity War, in theaters now.

It looks as if a popular theory about one of the final scenes from Avengers: Infinity War is true, as one of its directors confirmed it.

Joe Russo made a surprise appearance Monday at Iowa City High School, where he fielded questions from students about the Marvel Studios blockbuster. A transcription of the Q&A was posted on Reddit.

One student asked why Gamora appeared as a child after Thanos snapped his Infinity Gauntlet-clad fingers and, more importantly, where that scene took place.

"Yeah, it’s -- it’s implied it’s the Soul Stone," Russo replied. "It’s all orange around, then he’s inside the Soul Stone with the amount of power that it took to snap his fingers."

That would confirm a popular fan theory that not only does Soul World exist in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but it's where Gamora is following her death in Infinity War. The student followed up, asking, "So she's there?"

"She’s, in fact is, yes," Russo said, according to the transcript. "It was an attempt an attempt on our part, because we don’t like two-dimensional roles or three-dimensional villains. ... [Thanos] said at the end 'It cost him everything,' and that it was the only thing he loved, which was Gamora, which is why we put him back with her at the end. I just want to reiterate with the audience that he does feel true emotion even though he is a monster."

Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War stars Robert Downey Jr., Josh Brolin, Mark Ruffalo, Tom Hiddleston, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Jeremy Renner, Chris Pratt, Elizabeth Olsen, Sebastian Stan, Benedict Cumberbatch, Paul Bettany, Samuel L.
