It has been several years since Infinity War left audiences in disbelief. The Avengers did what they could to try and stop Thanos, but in the end, there was nothing that would get in the way of the Mad Titan. As Thanos progressed in his goal to wipe out half of all life in the universe, he leaves a trail of destruction in his wake. Infinity War did the unthinkable when Thanos collected each of the infinity stones and succeeding in wiping out half of all life with a single snap. Audiences had to endure the brutal ending as they watch some of their favorite characters disappear into thin air. These are five of the most and five of the least heartbreaking deaths from Infinity War that audiences are still dealing with.

10 Most Heartbreaking: Groot

Whether he was dancing to '80s music during a big fight or giving Star-Lord attitude as they fly through the galaxy, Groot easily won his way into the hearts of fans. As he tags along with the other guardians of the galaxy, Groot became a fan-favorite member of the Avengers. At the end of the Infinity War, Groot turns to dust in the arms of Rocket Raccoon. The scene is without a doubt heartbreaking, and at the end of the film, it is a brutal gut punch to the audience as Rocket cries trying to save his friend. Groot's death is definitely one of the saddest losses in the film.

9 Least Heartbreaking: Mantis

Mantis has definitely provided some hilarious moments in all of the movies she has appeared in. Every time she is on-screen with Drax, there is guaranteed to be some memorable lines between the two of them.

While every death in Infinity War is sad, the scene with Mantis disappearing did not make as big of an impact as others. In future films, Mantis will definitely become an irreplaceable member of the team. She has some great moments, but she is relatively new to the team, so when there are so many beloved characters being lost during the film, Mantis falls low on the list of heartbreaking moments.

8 Most Heartbreaking:  Gamora

Gamora has become one of the most beloved members of the guardians of the galaxy, and has more than one huge emotional moment in Infinity War. Gamora is the daughter of Thanos, so as he is seeking to destroy half of all life, she feels a major responsibility to do everything she can to stop him. When Thanos chooses to trade his own daughter's life for one of the Infinity Stones, it is a brutal scene to watch. Gamora's death in the film is truly heartbreaking, and it raises the stakes even more as the heroes find out what Thanos did to her later on.

7 Least Heartbreaking: Heimdall

Ever since the first Thor film, Heimdall has been an important character to Asgard. After the third Thor film, Heimdall had plenty of emotional moments. When Thanos first shows up in Infinity War, he bursts into the scene by attacking Thor's ship full of Asgardians.

Amidst the wreckage, Heimdall is one of the casualties. This death is definitely sad, but it is overshadowed by the chaos surrounding it. There is no moment to grieve over Heimdall because the mayhem Thanos brings just escalates from there. Right before he is killed, Heimdall uses his powers to save the Hulk, making the moment more triumphant than heartbreaking.

6 Most Heartbreaking: Bucky

The Winter Soldier has crossed the line between friend and foe multiple times. With a past that will always haunt him, Bucky Barnes took up a peaceful life in Wakanda, where he was rehabilitated to erase the programming he had suffered through as a Russian assassin. When Thanos and his army show up, Bucky joins his friends at the front line of the fight. Over the entire film, Bucky proved himself to be a real hero as he fights for Wakanda with the rest of the heroes. Bucky Barnes' death was particularly heartbreaking because he was the first of the heroes to disappear, and his best friend, Steve Rogers, turned around in horror to see the shocking scene.

5 Least Heartbreaking: Falcon

Falcon was truly underserved in the final scenes of the Infinity War. Sam Wilson was also one of Steve Rogers' best friends, but unlike Bucky, his disappearance was much less heartbreaking. He has had plenty of great moments in previous Captain America films, but in this movie, he does not get the emotional moment he deserved.

When Falcon disappears, he is separated from the rest of the heroes, and almost no one even notices. It could have been an emotional gut punch to see Steve Rogers' two best friends disappear right before his eyes, but instead, Falcon's death was much less heartbreaking than it should have been.

4 Least Heartbreaking: Nick Fury

Nick Fury's death in the film was one of the least heartbreaking losses, as audiences may have missed it if they did not stay past some of the credits. With his final moments, Nick Fury is quick on his feet and uses his last moments to call for help from his space-traveling friend. Fury's final scene was humorous even, as he started to say an expletive right as he turned to dust. Nick Fury has been an important character in the formation of the Avengers, the team might not even exist without his efforts. He has always been a serious character, so an emotional ending would not have fit that character. Instead of a heartbreaking moment, Nick Fury's death was purposeful and gave audiences a much-needed spark of hope.

3 Most Heartbreaking: Loki

Loki has been one of the most memorable characters in the Marvel cinematic universe, both as a villain for the Avengers and as an ally to Thor and his companions. While he has never been a true hero, Loki has always been a sympathetic character that has a good heart at times.

Despite his wrongdoings, Loki's final act was to try to stop the Mad Titan. He fell short of this and was killed by Thanos right in front of his brother. Even though Loki has 'died' in the past, this death felt final. It was especially heartbreaking because we saw Thor helpless in that situation, losing the last of his family right before him.

2 Least Heartbreaking: Doctor Strange

The Sorcerer Supreme put up quite a fight against Thanos. When the two characters went toe to toe on Thanos' home planet, the result was a spectacular and tense battle. Although he came up short, Doctor Strange gave the heroes the best shot they had to defeat the Mad Titan. By the end of the film, Doctor Strange had glimpsed into all possible outcomes and knew what was to come. Out of all the heroes that disappeared at the end, Strange was the only one who knew how they could be saved in the future. His death is less heartbreaking because he gives Tony Stark a final bit of hope right before he disappears.

1 Most Heartbreaking: Spider-Man

This death is easily the most heartbreaking moment in the entire film. Peter Parker followed Tony Stark into space against his mentor's wishes. Over the length of the film, Parker is just trying to prove himself worthy of being an Avenger. After saving Doctor Strange, Iron Man knights the young hero and declares he is officially an Avenger. Peter Parker has so much heart and just wants to do what is right. In the final moments of the film, Peter Parker collapses into Stark's arms fighting off the inevitable. The scene is absolutely heartbreaking, and it is a shocking way to end a film with the death of one of the most loveable characters of all time.
