Deadline reports the Marvel Studios sequel has earned $857.3 million worldwide as of today, and should reach the $1 billion milestone by Saturday.
Infinity War is outpacing Captain America: Civil War's box office earnings by 74 percent, and Avengers: Age of Ultron's by 66 percent. The United Kingdom is leading international markets as of Wednesday with $51.3 million, followed by South Korea with $50.9 million. Within five days of its release, Infinity War had surpassed Star Wars: The Force Awakens to become fastest film to cross $300 million domestically. The film has yet to debut in Russia or China, but will release in those countries on May 4 and May 11, respectively.
In terms of social media, Infinity War has been going strong, thanks in part to memes related to the film's ending. There's also been videos circulating again of Mark Ruffalo accidentally spoiling the film's ending a year ago, along with Tom Holland doing the same thing to a horde of fans just minutes before they would come to see the movie. Still, that clearly hasn't stopped the film from dominating the box office, and it seems doubtful that anything will.
Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, Avengers: Infinity War stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, Scarlett Johansson, Anthony Mackie, Paul Rudd, Elizabeth Olsen, Tom Holland, Benedict Cumberbatch, Chadwick Boseman, Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Tom Hiddleston, and Josh Brolin. The film isin theaters now.
