The mystery surrounding Peter Dinklage's role in Avengers: Infinity War deepens as it turns out he's not playing Black Order member Corvus Glaive after all.
After director Joe and Anthony Russo promised that fans would be able to recognize the Game of Thrones star in his Infinity War role, a recent clip depicted Corvus Glaive with what was widely thought to be Dinklage's voice. However, the actual actor who actually plays Thanos' right-hand man has now been revealed.
During a press junket Sunday in Los Angeles, Joe Russo told CinemaBlend that Michael Shaw, known for his roles on Limitless and Constantine, portrays the Black Order general.
Shaw followed that confirmation with his own comment on Twitter, writing, "Cat's out of the bag! So excited to share that I'm portraying Corvus Glaive in Avengers: Infinity War! Thank you Russo Brothers for an amazing experience. It's going down!"
Instead of a "wait-and-see" response, the Russos divulged that Shaw joins Carrie Coon as Proxima Midnight, Terry Notary as Cull Obsidian and Tom Vaughan-Lawlor as Ebony Maw.
While Glaive won't be played by a huge name such as Dinklage, Anthony Russo explained the reasoning behind Shaw's casting.
"In the same way we were approaching Thanos with Josh Brolin to bring sort of a very grounded, realistic performance, we wanted to do that with everyone in the Black Order," he said. "So we cast very, very good actors for those. And we had Terry Notary, so Terry worked very closely with every one of them to help them understand, including Josh, to help them understand movement, what the relationship between their body and their characters' bodies are, almost like a puppeteer."
Dinklage was said to be in "early talks" for Infinity War in January 2017, followed by some cryptic photos that showed him sporting red hair. Now that fans know he doesn't be Glaive, could the long-standing theory that he is Pip the Troll rear its head again?
Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, Avengers: Infinity War stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, Scarlett Johansson, Paul Bettany, Anthony Mackie, Paul Rudd, Elizabeth Olsen, Tom Holland, Benedict Cumberbatch, Chadwick Boseman, Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Tom Hiddleston and Josh Brolin, among others. The films opens April 27.
