Avengers: Infinity War is coming to theaters very very soon. This is the moment fans have been waiting years for ever since Nick Fury came out of the shadows in an Iron Man post credits scene talking about the Avengers Initiative. That led to 2012’s The Avengers which gave audiences their first glimpse of Thanos who smirked at the “threat” of the Avengers as he set his sights on gathering the Infinity Stones. And from there, his arrival has been teased little by little with each new movie and now, on April 27, destiny arrives.

As with anything as highly anticipated as Avengers: Infinity War, people have been eagerly awaiting fights seen in the trailers and specific team ups between their favorite characters. There’s something about seeing certain characters interact for the first time then turn around and have a fantastic fight scene with the enemy. On top of that, the opponents this time are so much more powerful than anything seen before that the Avengers and Guardians will be pushed to their limits as they try to defend the universe from danger. To help temper our excitement, let’s discuss Infinity War: 10 Fights/10 team-ups that we’re most excited about.

20 FIGHT: DOCTOR STRANGE VS EBONY MAW

The interesting thing about the Black Order is how little we know about the MCU version of them compared to their comic book counterparts. In the comics, Ebony Maw is a highly intelligent foe that possesses the power of hypnotic suggestion. His skills at manipulation are so powerful that he made an experienced Doctor Strange betray his allies and summon a powerful demon to Earth.

It’s unknown how Maw’s powers will translate to the MCU, but from the trailers it looks like he has Doctor Strange’s number.

Whether he’s a sorcerer too or is simply battling him on a mindscape, it will be a different kind of battle than we’re used to seeing. And since Doctor Strange is one of the most powerful people on the side of good, seeing him get handled by one of Thanos’s generals will put the power of their opponents in perspective.

19 TEAM-UP: CAP AND BUCKY'S (LAST?) STAND

They’ve been friends forever and it shows. Chris Evans and Sebastian Stan are both extremely talented actors and it shows in their complicated relationship. In Captain America: Civil War, Stan perfectly portrayed a Bucky who was regretful of his actions while he was the Winter Soldier and is struggling to move past that guilt. Then Cap comes along and reminds Bucky of who he used to be and their friendship manages to shine through this in parts.

Bucky has experienced a lot of growth since then as shown in the Black Panther post credits scene. And it’ll be very interesting to see this growth and explore more of Cap and Bucky’s deep friendship and how it may translate to the battlefield like it did when they fought Iron Man together. There’s a chance for some golden battlefield banter while they’re surrounded by Outriders.

18 FIGHT: GUARDIANS VS SPIDER-MAN, IRON MAN & DOCTOR STRANGE

There’s no way that this isn’t going to happen. Superheroes can’t seem to ally with one another without doing battle first. Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain America: Civil War, and Thor: Ragnarok have all featured our favorite superheroes battling one another at some point in time.

These characters’ big personalities and profitability all but ensure that they’ll be trading blows at some point.

There have only been glimpses of a slight scuffle involving Star-Lord, Drax, Spider-Man, and Doctor Strange, so we don’t know how far the fight will go. But with a movie as stuffed as Infinity War, we doubt they’ll spend too much time on their scuffle. But whether it’s funny or serious, it’ll be a treat for the audiences to see these diverse powersets fight each other until they learn that they’re on the same side.

17 TEAM-UP: SPIDER-MAN AND DOCTOR STRANGE

In Thor: Ragnarok, Doctor Strange’s straight laced personality and impatience for nonsense played off so perfectly against Thor’s new characterization. Spider-Man’s personality is very similar to Thor’s new personality with the added benefit that he’s a kid and is very uncomfortable in this new realm of superheroes and planetary threats. Even the very short interaction between him and Doctor Strange during the trailer was very genuine to both characters but also very funny.

In addition to the laughs, Doctor Strange is a very intelligent and experienced hero who could serve as another mentor for Peter. It’s easy to see Strange fed up with Peter’s constant questions but intrigued at his potential. It looks like we’ll be getting plenty of interaction between the two when the movie arrives as they appear to spend a good chunk of the movie together.

16 FIGHT: CAP VS THANOS

This one will be more of a philosophical battle considering Cap couldn’t do much against Thanos by himself. Steve Rogers is such a big character who means so much to the other heroes. He and Iron Man are the closest things the forces of good have to a leader.

Seeing him face off against the overwhelming power of Thanos by himself will surely be a powerful moment.

We seem to have gotten a glimpse of this faceoff at the end of the second official Avengers: Infinity War trailer with Cap struggling to hold off Thanos’s grasp. This evokes a similar image in the Infinity Gauntlet storyline when Cap faces down Thanos by himself and refuses to give up despite the overwhelming power of the completed Infinity Gauntlet. The important thing to note is that Cap’s shield was effortlessly shattered in that encounter and he was knocked out in one blow.

15 TEAM-UP: IRON MAN AND DOCTOR STRANGE

This is a match made in heaven. Both of them are geniuses in their respective fields, pragmatic almost to a fault, sarcastic towards everyone around them, and have amazing facial hair. On top of that, their abilities complement each other very well with Tony providing knowledge on all manner of technology and Doctor Strange bringing his knowledge of the cosmos and magic to the table. This just seems like a duo that will get a lot done and provide a formidable challenge to anyone that opposes them.

And luckily for us, they seem to spend a good chunk of the movie together. We know that Doctor Strange invites Tony to the New York Sanctum at the beginning of the movie becauses he senses Thanos’s approach. From there, they fight the Black Order in New York, meet up with the Guardians, and somehow end up on Titan to do battle with Thanos.

14 FIGHT: HULK VS CULL OBSIDIAN

When there’s a musclebound giant in the movie, it’s almost a rule that the Hulk has to fight it. He fought the Hulkbuster in Avengers: Age of Ultron and Fenris & Surtur during Thor: Ragnarok. Disney would be missing out on a lot of money if they don’t take advantage of this opportunity by having the hulking powerhouses of each side go at it with one another. This is going to happen.

But just because it’s almost inevitable doesn’t mean that it won’t be uber enjoyable.

Watching these two hulking beings punch each other into submission would make for a fantastic fight scene even better than Hulk vs Abomination in The Incredible Hulk. The most likely time for this to happen is toward the beginning when Thanos and the Black Order board the Asgardian ship to claim the Space Stone.

13 TEAM-UP: THOR AND STAR-LORD

Star-Lord facing Thor in the MCU.

We’ve already got glimpses of this pairing in several of the TV spots and it is glorious. Star-Lord’s insecurity when faced with the perfect physical specimen of a man that is Chris Hemsworth has already split sides in the trailers. Thor’s transformation into a more comical character gives him the opportunity for far more interesting interactions with other Marvel characters. Even though the Russo Brothers said he’d be more serious in this movie, don’t expect him to lose all of the character development he had in Thor: Ragnarok.

Star-Lord, on the other hand, has always been funny and Chris Pratt is charismatic enough that he could match up with virtually anybody. His everyman charm and ability to weave humor into serious moments while still maintaining the dramatic tone will work well with Thor.

12 FIGHT: BATTLE ON TITAN

The only thing we need to know about this battle is that this is the one where Thanos throws a moon at the good guys. A moon. That alone is enough to get us pumped to see this showdown. This fight is to feature Iron Man, Spider-Man, Doctor Strange, Star-Lord, Drax, and Mantis taking on Thanos on his home planet (moon) of Titan which is the yellow surface we’ve seen in a lot of the trailers.

This battle will be important in showcasing the power of the Infinity Stones.

Thanos already showed how powerful he was by thoroughly trouncing Thor. In addition, there’s bound to be some incredible combination attacks in this one. We’ve already seen Star-Lord jumping on Doctor Strange’s magical glyphs to avoid attacks and get a better vantage point. So who knows what other surprise combinations there will be.

11 TEAM-UP: SHURI AND BRUCE BANNER

There have been set photos showing Shuri deep in discussion with Bruce Banner and Rhodey. Having really intelligent people meet for the first and try to figure out just how smart the other person may be is always a treat to watch. Especially if they kick it off like Tony and Bruce did in Avengers.

With Shuri confirmed to be the most intelligent person on Earth, it’ll be interesting to see if Bruce is frazzled by this young lady being smarter than he is or if he’ll love it. What makes this even more interesting is the state that Bruce was revealed to be in during Thor: Ragnarok. His social skills seemingly regressed since he was stuck inside Hulk and with the Hulk taking over again at the end of Thor: Ragnarok, Banner might be a bit off again. And we all know Shuri isn’t afraid to call people out.

10 FIGHT: SECRET AVENGERS VS CORVUS AND PROXIMA

Vision may be in the most danger during this movie. He has the Mind Stone embedded in his head and we all know that Thanos is coming for it. We can assume from trailers that he first sends Corvus Glaive and Proxima Midnight to retrieve it by ambushing him and Scarlet Witch while they’re enjoying some romantic time to themselves.

It looks like they’re defeated until the intervention of the Secret Avengers: Steve, Black Widow, and Falcon.

This fight is going to be so interesting because Vision will most likely be out of commission and Corvus Glaive and Proxima Midnight are so obviously stronger than the Secret Avengers. This means that the three of them will need to use tactics and subterfuge to drive the Black Order off. This offers the chance for a different kind of fight than we’re used to seeing.

9 TEAM-UP: CAPTAIN AMERICA AND IRON MAN

We can already see the sparks flying. Steve and Tony did not leave each other on the best of terms. The last time they saw each other they had beaten each other to a pulp, Tony had told Steve that he didn’t deserve the shield he was carrying, and Steve neglected to tell Tony about the manner of his parents’ deaths and then fought tooth and nail to protect the man that murdered them. These two have major unresolved issues that they haven’t even begun to healthily work out.

And with the arrival of Thanos, Steve and Tony are now forced to work together once again to protect the Earth. But the need to save the planet doesn’t preclude some serious animosity between the two of them. It’ll be interesting to see just how they manage to work together and how they manage to resolve this bitterness between them.

8 FIGHT: THOR VS THANOS

Thor had been through a lot in Thor: Ragnarok. He had lost his father, had his hammer destroyed, fought his incredibly powerful sister, and lost his homeworld. However, he came through it all a better person, a more powerful Asgardian, and a king.

And then Thanos appears and challenges his already endangered species.

Seeing Thor, who had only grown more powerful since we first met him, face down Thanos as king of Asgard and get trounced is more than likely going to make for a powerful and very sad scene. This is the first example of just how powerful Thanos is. Also, this is apparently where the Hulk and Banner both become absolutely terrified of Thanos. This is bound to be a visceral sequence that is all but certain to end in crushing defeat for our heroes.

7 TEAM-UP: OKOYE AND THE AVENGERS

Perhaps Black Panther’s greatest strength was its an amazing cast. Talented actors populated Wakanda with interesting characters and one of those characters is Danai Gurira’s Okoye. Fierce, proud, earnest, and very powerful, Okoye is Wakanda’s most powerful warrior (besides the Black Panther) and the leader of the Dora Milajae. Therefore, when the Avengers come to Wakanda looking for a place to protect Vision, she’s going to be on the front lines to defend Wakanda.

Okoye has a very powerful personality and, as the head of the Dora Milajae is going to stick close with T’Challa which will put her in the path of many of the Avengers who also have powerful personalities. With her strength, she can stand among them, so it’ll be interesting to see how they react to one another. Will they clash or will there be a mutual respect between warriors?

6 FIGHT: BATTLE AT THE SANCTUM

This is another one of the major action set pieces featuring a lot of characters. This one will take place in the streets of New York right outside Doctor Strange’s sanctum and will feature Iron Man, Spider-Man, Doctor Strange, and Wong vs. Ebony Maw and Cull Obsidian as they come for the Time Stone.

There’s definitely going to be an eclectic array of powers on the streets of New York from repulsors to some powerful spells.

This fight is going to be interesting because it could be the first time that Iron Man, Doctor Strange, and Spider-Man are going to face off against the Black Order. It’ll be interesting to see all of these heroes work together for the first time and try to figure out how to repel the Black Order’s first incursion.

5 TEAM-UP: BUCKY AND ROCKET

The Russo Brothers revealed that the entire third act of the movie will be during the Battle of Wakanda. They also separately confirmed that there is a sequence with all of the heroes in it which implies that all of the heroes will eventually meet up in Wakanda for the final battle. This includes Rocket, Groot, and Thor who went off on a mission separate from everyone else.

It'll be great for Rocket to meet Bucky because the more traditional Bucky has been startled by Spider-Man during the battle at Leipzig Airport, so his reaction to a cybernetic talking raccoon is bound to be hilarious. On top of that, Rocket seems to have an obsession with cybernetic and prosthetic body parts. So him meeting Bucky who has an entire robotic arm is sure to bring laughs to the entire theater.

4 FIGHT: THANOS AND THE BLACK ORDER VS THE NOVA CORPS

In the comics, the Power Gem is the fist Infinity Gem that Thanos goes for. If the MCU version follows that, then the Xandar will be the first stop on Thanos’s quest. And you can be sure that if he arrives on Xandar with the intention of stealing the Power Stone then the Nova Corps will oppose him. Anyone who gets in Thanos’s way seem to face serious consequences and since we see Thanos with the Power Stone later in the movie, one can only assume that those consequences included destruction.

Seeing Thanos and the Black Order take on an entire army could make for an amazing sequence.

It'll introduce us to his abilities and the diverse abilities of the Black Order as well. And it’ll be a gut punch after seeing the bravery of the Nova Corps in Guardians of the Galaxy.

3 TEAM-UP: FALCON AND TEAM IRON MAN

It's been revealed that Sam Wilson will have a hard time playing nice with those who were on Team Iron Man during Captain America: Civil War. He's a military man and soldiers in the military operate on trust. Therefore, trusting the people that he'd been fighting with a couple months earlier won't come easy to him and he’ll make it known.

Falcon is somebody who’s shown that he'll always speak his mind. And he's not afraid to be blunt about it either. His antagonistic attitude towards Bucky during Captain America: Civil War was one of the comedic highlights of the movie. So seeing him interact with Black Panther, War Machine, Iron Man, Spider-Man, and maybe even Vision will most likely give us some intense conflict and probably some funny quips from him as well.

2 FIGHT: BATTLE OF WAKANDA

This is the big one. The one that everyone has been waiting for. This will be the largest scale battle in the entire MCU and one of the largest battles in movie history. As far as we know, this one will feature the entire military might of Wakanda along with Captain America, Black Panther, Scarlet Witch, Black Widow, War Machine, Bruce Banner/Hulk, the Winter Soldier, and Falcon, vs an Outrider army and the Black Order.

It sounds like the battle will take up the entire third act, meaning that it’s going to evolve.

We know that Rocket, Groot, and Thor join. Though the battle is to protect Vision and the Mind Stone, he’s more than likely going to join the fight eventually. We’ve also seen that Thanos eventually joins the fray and that means that the heroes fighting him on Titan will return and join in as well.

1 TEAM-UP: IRON MAN AND THE GUARDIANS

The Guardians of the Galaxy have yet to meet any of the earth-based characters in the MCU. Therefore, it’ll be great to see them meet up with the man who kicked off this whole universe back in 2008. Tony Stark has one of the most interesting personalities in the MCU; it’s why we fell in love with him back during Iron Man. He’s sarcastic and egotistic but also incredibly intelligent and insightful.

The Guardians each can play off well against Tony for different reasons. Drax would take all of Tony’s jokes literally, Star Lord’s immaturity would give him and Tony a relationship similar to the one he has with Spider-Man, Rocket would be happy to go tit for tat with Tony, Mantis is so awkward with everyone, there are already rumors of Tony having the hots for Gamora, and Groot is in the apathetic stage of his teen years.
