The cliffhanger ending of Avengers: Infinity War came as quite a shock, as fans watched some of their favorite characters crumble to dust following the Mad Titan Thanos' reality-altering, Infinity Stones-powered finger snap. Spider-Man, Doctor Strange, Black Panther, the Guardians of the Galaxy, the Wasp and Nick Fury all disappeared, along with half of all life on Earth, and the universe.
But while we saw many fan-favorite characters disappear, there are still many whose whereabouts remain unconfirmed. Brothers Joe and Anthony Russo would later confirm the fate of certain characters like May Parker and Nakia, but that was still far from covering all Marvel Cinematic Universe characters. Well, now we can add two more names to the list of survivors: Dr. Erik Selvig and Darcy Lewis.
Today, writer Brandon T. Snider hyped the release of his new Avengers: Infinity War novel The Cosmic Quest Volume 2: Aftermath by sharing a picture of the back cover, which revealed the synopsis of the book.
TODAY’S THE DAY! The search for the truth begins in @Marvel’s #AvengersInfinityWar: Cosmic Quest Volume #2: AFTERMATH. Who are the Science Avengers?! Pick up a copy and find out. https://t.co/hpI06Z4jFG pic.twitter.com/eYStCiWuzZ— Brandon T. Snider (@BrandonTSnider) November 27, 2018
"A deadly threat emerged from the cosmos -- and it was fulfilled. In the wake of Thanos' horrifying success, the people of Earth are left reeling in despair and confusion. Without any logical explanation for the blip-out event, those remaining must pick up the pieces.
Doctor Erik Selvig and his associate Darcy Lewis are determined to find and understand the cause of the devastation. With a team of friends both old and new, they embark on a pursuit of knowledge, eager to discover the links between their own pasts and the stones that decimated half of humanity – the Infinity Stones. Little do they know that a new foe who threatens to destroy them all is looming..."
Therefore, the synopsis of the book confirms that Selvig and Darcy, who both appeared in 2011's Thor and its 2013 sequel Thor: The Dark World, survived the fateful finger snap. What's more, Snider's accompanying caption, which asks "Who are the Science Avengers?!" make it seem like Selvig and Darcy are putting a different kind of team together. Perhaps more will be revealed next year, when the untitled Avengers 4 finally hits theatres.
The untitled sequel to Avengers: Infinity War will release on May 3, 2019. Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, Marvel’s Avengers 4 stars Robert Downey Jr., Josh Brolin, Mark Ruffalo, Tom Hiddleston, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Jeremy Renner, Chris Pratt, Elizabeth Olsen, Sebastian Stan, Benedict Cumberbatch, Paul Bettany, Samuel L. Jackson, Cobie Smulders, Benedict Wong, Zoe Saldana, Karen Gillan, Vin Diesel, Dave Bautista, Pom Klementieff, Scarlett Johansson, Tom Holland and Anthony Mackie.
