The wait is over. Avengers: Infinity War has finally hit theaters and, with it, a serious shake-up to the MCU has come. Marvel pulled out all of the stops for this crossover, as it wasn't afraid to go against its own tropes for the sake of telling an interesting story. Part of the reason the movie was so compelling was because it willingly removed many characters we'd grown up watching on screen for years. Now that Thanos has all of the Infinity Stones and snapped his fingers, it seems that the remaining Marvel heroes will need to do everything they can in order to save reality itself.

With all of the casualties we experienced on the big screen, we had a lot of time to process and grieve over each loss. There are many characters that we will miss greatly. Their deaths impacted us, and the Marvel Universe will never be the same. That said, there were some characters who were lost that we're not too broken up about. Which of the deaths in Avengers: Infinity War impacted you the most? Be prepared to burn fresh wounds as we discuss eight characters we'll miss and seven characters we won't. Keep in mind that major spoilers for the movie are ahead.

WARNING: MASSIVE SPOILERS FOR INFINITY WAR AHEAD!

15 WILL MISS: BLACK PANTHER

King T'Challa is one of the newest recruits in the MCU. He first debuted in Captain America: Civil War as the son of King T'Chaka of Wakanda. After his father was killed by Zemo at a meeting of the United Nations, T'Challa took the mantle of the Black Panther and swore vengeance on the ones that did it. Eventually, he calmed his head and offered refuge to Winter Soldier and the rest of the Secret Avengers. Since then, he was given his own movie that was extremely successful. T'Challa ended up being an extremely well-written character more than capable of holding his own story and one of the new faces of the MCU.

Black Panther's involvement in Avengers: Infinity War wasn't very big. He showed up to give Bucky a new Vibranium arm as well as offer refuge to Vision when the Outriders and Children of Thanos came to attack. After Thanos showed up in Wakanda and snapped his fingers after grabbing all of the Infinity Stones, Black Panther went to help Okoye. Before he could offer any words of comfort, though, he was one of the heroes to disintegrate as a result of Thanos restructuring the Marvel Universe. T'Challa, we barely knew you. Now you're gone.

14 WON'T MISS: VISION

Vision was created by Ultron as a way to embody what he felt was best for the entire world's population. However, Vision grew a conscience and ended up working with the Avengers to stop Ultron from taking over. Later on, he would be one of the Avengers to sign the Sokovia Accords and join Team Iron Man during Captain America: Civil War. With the hopes of one day understanding and controlling the Mind Stone, we all knew that the android would have to come face to face with Thanos eventually.

In Avengers: Infinity War, that finally comes to fruition. After being targeted and attacked by Proxima Midnight and Corvus Glaive, Vision ends up against the Mad Titan. After he begs Scarlet Witch to kill him (and she succeeds), Thanos rewinds time and rips the Mind Stone out of his head. It was a brutal death scene and one that sticks in our minds. That said, Vision was never that interesting of a character. As an individual, he didn't gain a personality of his own until he started falling in love with Scarlet Witch. Again, it was hard to watch him die so brutally, but we're not too invested in him.

13 WILL MISS: DOCTOR STRANGE

Stephen Strange has completely embraced his role as the Master of the Mystic Arts and the protector of the universe. After having his own solo movie where he learned how to use magic and wield the Eye of Agamotto, which contained the Time Stone, Doctor Strange has since taken to his new title quite nicely. He would reappear in Thor: Ragnarok when Thor and Loki came to Earth. It's clear that Benedict Cumberbatch is perfect for the role, bringing the right amount of pride and wisdom.

Being a magical protector, Doctor Strange had a big role in Avengers: Infinity War. When Hulk came crashing into the Sanctum Sanctorum, he was the one to begin recruiting Avengers to join the fight against Thanos. He would later join Iron Man, Spider-Man, Star-Lord, Drax, and Mantis on their journey to Titan to take the fight to the Mad Titan. After seeing 14 million possible alternate outcomes, Strange developed a plan where they all survived. Unfortunately, the only play where they came out alive was if he gave Thanos the Time Stone. While it was detrimental in the moment, there's a chance that Strange was playing the long game with this move. That said, he wouldn't be around to see it, as he was disintegrated when Thanos snapped his fingers.

12 WON'T MISS: HEIMDALL

Heimdall was the guardian of the Bifrost on Asgard. During Thor, we meet him as a watchful protector who can see anything in the Nine Realms at any time. He keeps that role as of Thor: The Dark World, but things change once Thor: Ragnarok comes around. He is an Asgardian on the run, and the headship of the Bifrost went over to Skurge. Heimdall helped Thor fight his sister and was on the ship that evacuated all of the Asgardians before it was destroyed by Surtur.

Being such a classic character in the MCU, it was shocking to see him meet his end during the opening few minutes of Avengers: Infinity War. He summoned the power of the Bifrost to send Hulk to Earth, and Thanos killed him as a result. While it was painful for Thor to see his best friend be killed by the Mad Titan, Heimdall has never been given the proper screen time to be more of an interesting character other than a wise Asgardian tasked with managing the Bifrost. On the heels of Thor: Ragnarok, there was probably little room for someone like Heimdall when characters like Valkyrie already exist (regardless of what became of them in Avengers: Infinity War).

11 WILL MISS: GROOT

Groot is one of the most interesting characters in the MCU. First introduced in Guardians of the Galaxy, he was the friend of Rocket Raccoon before joining Peter Quill, Drax and Gamora on the Guardians of the Galaxy team. However, he tragically and heroically sacrificed himself at the end of the film in order to save his new family. After that, he was reborn as a baby (or it's his son or something), meaning that he would become a teenager by the time of Avengers: Infinity War.

Despite being a typical teenager (complete with a love of electronics and a foul mouth), there is still a lot to love about this version of Groot. When Thor was knocked out after taking the energy of a dying star, the only thing that could bring him back was the forging of Stormbreaker. It would not have been completed had it not been for Groot using one of his limbs as the handle for the ax, thus reviving Thor. Due to Groot fundamentally caring about the conflict against Thanos and helping out Thor, it was all the more painful when he was one of the characters to fade away from Thanos's snap. Rocket's sad reaction also made that moment particularly heartbreaking.

10 WON'T MISS: MARIA HILL

After the events of Avengers: Age of Ultron, we haven't seen much of Nick Fury or Agent Maria Hill. These two characters were prominent in Phase One of the MCU (mostly The Avengers) and would later reprise their roles in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. They rebuilt S.H.I.E.L.D. by the time Age of Ultron came around, but that was it. The press was also told that Nick Fury would not be appearing for Avengers: Infinity War, so many people were shocked when the post-credits scene included both of these characters.

While driving on the road, they were both in awe to see people disintegrating all around them. Helicopters were crashing, cars were veering off the road, and the world was in a panic. Nick Fury was shocked in his car when Maria Hill quickly began to disappear herself. The scene ends with Nick Fury also undergoing the same fate, nearly dropping one of Samuel L. Jackson's classic catchphrases. While it was shocking to see these beloved characters disappear because of Thanos, Maria Hill has never been fully utilized (she has only been there to give Nick someone to interact with), and we could easily do without her in the MCU.

9 WILL MISS: STAR-LORD

Peter Quill has had a rough life from the very start. At a young age, he lost his mother to cancer and was immediately sucked up into space by the Ravagers. Since then, he's had to learn to survive in space against numerous beings that are much stronger than him. That all changed when he met the various people (or aliens) that would help him form the Guardians of the Galaxy. Quill actually has the chance at a family and even has a love interest in the form of Gamora. As most MCU characters, Chris Pratt brings a fantastic performance in every film, having the right amount of wit and childish sarcasm.

Unfortunately, Star Lord's life would get worse during Avengers: Infinity War. He first met Thor before going to Titan and teaming up with a ragtag group of Avengers. It's there that they would work desperately to get the Infinity Gauntlet off of Thanos's hand. However, the Mad Titan had a trick up his sleeve and Peter lost his cool, causing Thanos to gain the upper hand once again. After snapping his fingers, Quill was one of the characters to be disintegrated. Of all the Guardians to go away, we didn't think that Marvel would easily take away the leader of the Guardians of the Galaxy.

8 WON'T MISS: THE NOVA CORPS

The Nova Corps was first introduced in Guardians of the Galaxy. Functioning as the space police of the galaxy, they made their home on the futuristic town of Xandar. When the Guardians showed up there, they were the ones to imprison them. They would later fight alongside the Guardians and the Ravagers when Ronan the Accuser came to Xandar with the power of an Infinity Stone while piloting the Dark Aster. At the end of the film, Peter tricks Yondu into not getting the Power Stone, and instead gives it to the Nova Corps for safekeeping.

When we first see Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War, he has already defeated Thor and has the Power Stone in the Infinity Gauntlet. It was confirmed that several days before that movie, Thanos had destroyed Xandar. While we're sure that was a horribly tragic event, the Nova Corps were never more than side characters in the MCU. They weren't deemed important enough to reappear in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2, so we won't miss them now that they're gone. It is weird to go back to Guardians of the Galaxy and see that the entire planet is destroyed, though.

7 WILL MISS: GAMORA

Many people were theorizing that one of the Guardians of the Galaxy would die. That said, Gamora was easily the last one on many lists. This alien first appeared in Guardians of the Galaxy and was revealed to be the daughter of Thanos. While it was initially revealed that the two had a hateful relationship, Avengers: Infinity War told a much different story. As it turns out, Gamora was not only Thanos's favorite daughter, but the two shared a very special and oddly touching bond. When she seemingly killed him in Knowhere, she couldn't help but break down in tears.

However, the love interest of Star-Lord would have more trials to overcome. Because she knows where the Soul Stone is located, she would be taken by Thanos to tell him its location. Upon finding the stone, Thanos would only be able to acquire it if he killed the one he loved. Because he loves Gamora to some extent, he grabbed her by the arm and threw her off the cliff in order to gain the Soul Stone. Being one of the original Guardians of the Galaxy, it was shocking to see her die. She and Peter Quill never even got the proper chance to build their relationship, which makes her death that much sadder.

6 WON'T MISS: CHILDREN OF THANOS

When Thanos decided that it was time to get all of the Infinity Stones, he wouldn't be going on his "Thanos Quest" alone. Apparently, he has more children than just Gamora and Nebula, and loyal ones at that. It's together that he would work with his Children (or Black Order) in order to get all of the Stones. Proxima Midnight and Corvus Glaive would hunt down Vision to get the Mind Stone. Meanwhile, Cull Obsidian and Ebony Maw would be tasked with getting the Time Stone. None of them were successful.

Ebony Maw was killed by Iron Man and Spider-Man when they were saving Doctor Strange in space. Cull Obsidian was killed by Bruce Banner in the Hulkbuster suit. Proxima Midnight was killed by Scarlet Witch, Black Widow, and Okoye. Then, Corvus Glaive was stabbed by the Vision. While they all posed a unique threat, they were little more than glorified henchmen and were really only there to service the development of Thanos as well as give something for the Avengers to fight (not exactly the best villains in the MCU). We definitely won't miss them going forward- especially considering that all of our hatred is pouring out to the Mad Titan himself.

5 WILL MISS: SPIDER-MAN

When it was announced that Spider-Man would be brought to the MCU, Marvel fans were losing their minds. When he finally debuted in Captain America: Civil War, Tom Holland easily cemented himself as the best on-screen portrayal of the character since Tobey Maguire popularized him in the early '00s. Since then, Holland starred in Spider-Man: Homecoming, where he learned the meaning of being a real superhero with some guidance from Tony Stark, whom he looks up to as someone he aspires to become.

Living in New York, Spider-Man was one of the first heroes to take action when the Children of Thanos came to Earth. Fighting alongside Iron Man, Doctor Strange, Wong, and Bruce Banner, it wasn't long before the battle was taken to space. It was then that Spider-Man followed closely behind, much to the chagrin of Iron Man. However, it was even more tragic on Titan after Thanos snapped his fingers. Characters started disintegrating when Peter said, "Mr. Stark, I don't feel so good." When he started to disintegrate himself, he broke down in tears while falling into Tony's arms, begging that he didn't want to go and that he wasn't ready. Unfortunately, he disappeared too, leaving Tony and the audience a broken mess.

4 WON'T MISS: MANTIS

Like most superhero teams, the Guardians of the Galaxy team is growing. The team, as of the first movie, consisted of Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Rocket, and Groot. In Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2, the team added Yondu, Nebula, and Mantis. The latter two either died or left, leaving Mantis as the only one to stay for the fight. Introduced in the movie as a companion to Ego the Living Planet, she has the power to make others feel certain emotions, as well as put them to sleep.

Once she revealed to the Guardians that Ego was evil, she joined their team. Moving forward to Avengers: Infinity War, she was utilized to put the Mad Titan to sleep while the rest of the heroes tried to slip that Gauntlet off of his hand. They failed and Thanos ended up wiping out half of the universe. When everyone was disintegrating, Mantis was one of the first ones to go. However, Mantis, as a character, has yet to prove her necessity of being in the MCU. While we certainly feel for her disappearance, it wasn't nearly as painful as watching Star-Lord, Doctor Strange, or Spider-Man be taken away. We won't miss her all that much.

3 WILL MISS: LOKI

Loki has always been one of the MCU's best characters. First appearing in Thor, Loki was the adopted brother of the God of Thunder who had a much different outlook on life. After leaving Asgard, he tried to take over Earth in The Avengers and faked his death to take over Asgard in Thor: The Dark World. In Thor: Ragnarok, he found favor on Sakaar, but returned to Asgard with Thor in order to stop Hela. Unfortunately, his greed would get the better of him, as took the Tesseract and brought it on the ship containing the rest of the Asgardians.

Thanos knew exactly where the Tesseract was, because the opening moments of Avengers: Infinity War show him already attacking the ship. Loki gives him the Tesseract and then pledges his service to the Mad Titan. After trying to double-cross the villain and kill him, Thanos responds by grabbing him, strangling him, and then snapping his neck with the phrase, "No resurrections this time." Considering that Loki has always found a way out and a plan B, finally seeing him bested and killed by someone is heartbreaking, especially when you remember that he had been redeemed in Thor: Ragnarok. We'll miss him dearly.

2 WON'T MISS: THE COLLECTOR

After the events of Thor: The Dark World, we got a taste of the third Infinity Stone, which Odin referred to as the Aether. This powerful object could keep itself moving in a host body. It rested inside Jane Foster in the movie and was desired by Malekith, the leader of the Dark Elves. However, like all other MCU movies, Thor and his friends eventually defeated Malekith and they were able to take the Aether for safekeeping. Instead of hiding it away in Odin's vault, Lady Sif and the Warriors Three took it to Knowhere, where it would be bought by the Collector.

After getting the Tesseract and killing the Asgardians, Thanos makes his way to Knowhere to challenge the Collector. When the Guardians get there, it seems like Thanos is interrogating the Collector about where the stone is. This turned out to be an illusory trap that the Mad Titan set up. When he actually comes into frame, he shows that he has the Reality Stone in his grasp, and it appears as if the Collector has been killed. Considering he was nothing more than an exposition dump, we won't miss the Collector too much if he truly is gone for good.

1 WILL MISS: SCARLET WITCH

Wanda Maximoff voluntarily became a superhero when she was experimented on with the Mind Stone. Being given the powers of physical manipulation in Avengers: Age of Ultron, she would quickly become one of the most powerful members of the Avengers. She would also form a romantic relationship with the Vision that kicked off in Captain America: Civil War. Fast forward to Avengers: Infinity War, and things are starting to become more serious.

Because Thanos wants all of the Infinity Stones, he sends all of his Children after Vision, meaning that Wanda has to defend him. When the Mad Titan comes to Wakanda, she is forced to kill Vision in order to prevent him from gaining the Mind Stone. Unfortunately, Thanos rewinds time, shoves Scarlet Witch out of the way, and rips the stone out of the robot's head. She had to witness her lover die twice, once by her own hand. After that, Thanos ends up snapping his fingers and disappears. While grieving for the loss of the Vision, Wanda begins to disintegrate along with the other superheroes of the universe. Considering how much growth she's had following Avengers: Infinity War and her excellent powers, we'll miss her contribution to the team.
