In a rather surprising move, Avengers: Infinity War managed to beat Star Wars: The Force Awakens' $248 million opening, after all, giving it the biggest domestic opening of all time.

Marvel Studios' Avengers: Infinity War managed to beat expectations, earning a massive $250 million at the domestic box office this weekend. That was enough to slightly edge out The Force Awakens to give Thanos the title of biggest domestic opening, ever. And if that wasn't impressive enough, Black Panther reentered the top five at the box office this weekend -- in its eleventh weekend -- going on to earn an additional $5 million.

A few of the other records set by Infinity War? Biggest Saturday ever with $83 million, beating out Jurassic World and The Avengers ($69.9 million), and biggest Sunday ever with $61 million, once again, overtaking The Force Awakens' record ($60.6 million). The superhero flick also scored the biggest international opening ever with a $630 million opening, overtaking The Fate of the Furious' prior record of $541.9 million. What makes the film's huge international global all the more impressive is the fact that it doesn't open in China until May 11.

Infinity War joins The Avengers ($207.4 million) and Black Panther ($202 million) as the only three superhero flicks to have crossed $200 million in their opening weekends. It also gives Disney the top three biggest openings ever, with Avengers: Infinity War, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
